Sunnyvale Animal Shelter Alert

The Town of Sunnyvale’s Animal Shelter is temporarily unable to accept or adopt dogs due to an outbreak of canine distemper. Town personnel are working with a veterinarian to treat dogs diagnosed with the disease and with other area shelters and rescue groups to quarantine dogs that do not appear to be ill at this time.

Canine distemper is highly contagious and potentially fatal to dogs. It's caused by a virus that attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems. While there's no cure, vaccination is highly effective in preventing it. The illness can be treated by managing symptoms and providing supportive care.

The shelter’s cats are not affected by this outbreak and are still available for adoption.

The shelter will be thoroughly cleaned before dogs that are confirmed to be free of the distemper virus are returned to the facility.

The Town of Sunnyvale will notify the public when the shelter resumes normal operations.

Town Council Calls Special Election

The Sunnyvale Town Council has called a special election to fill the vacant Place 4 Council seat to be held on the uniform election date, Nov. 4.

Follow Summer Lawn Watering Schedules

Our region is behind its normal rainfall totals so far this year. Summers in Texas are usually hot and dry, prompting the need to use water wisely.

Lawn watering is not allowed in Sunnyvale between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Property owners should water on their designated day as outlined in the Town's Watering Zone Map.

The Town of Sunnyvale's website has several resources to help you save water and reduce your water bill.
