Smoke Testing to Begin the Week of Aug. 10

The Town of Sunnyvale is planning to begin its sanitary sewer smoke-testing process the week of Aug. 10. This process helps identify potential issues that may affect system performance.

The Town will conduct testing in the Deer Creek, Stoney Creek 5B and Stoney Creek 5A subdivisions, as well as around the Sunnyvale ISD campuses. The testing area will include the following streets (see the map graphic below):

Deer Creek Lane

Brazos Lane

Medina Lane

Blanco Lane

Bufflehead Court

Robin Ridge

Claire Court

Sunset Court

Madison Court

Mallard Drive

Town staff will conduct smoke testing during normal business hours, generally from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Town staff will not need to enter your home during testing.

More information is available on the Town’s website at sunnyvaletx.gov/678/Sewer-Smoke-Testing. If you have additional questions, please contact the Public Works department at 972-226-7177, option 6.

Back to School Safety Reminders

The Sunnyvale Police Department is gearing up to protect our students as they return to school from the summer break. Here are some important reminders:

  • Slow down and watch for children in school zones.
  • School zones are in effect from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. and from 2:30 to 4:20 p.m. The speed limit is 20 mph.
  • Put your phones down. Stay alert and focus on the road. Cell phone use is prohibited in school zones.
  • Buckle up to protect yourself and others.
  • Be patient!

Thank you for keeping our students safe!

Understanding the Summer Lawn Watering Guidelines

The Town of Sunnyvale has updated its lawn watering guidelines to support the water conservation efforts of our wholesale water provider, North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD), and to further the goals of the Town's Water Conservation Plan.

The Town is moving to an address-based format to simplify compliance for all property owners. The watering schedule is as follows:

  • All residential addresses ending in an odd number – water on Mondays and Thursdays.
  • All residential addresses ending in an even number – water on Wednesdays and Sundays.
  • Commercial properties – water on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • No watering on Saturdays.
  • No watering on any day between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

This schedule complies with our water supplier’s conservation and state requirements. It also conforms to the Town’s Water Conservation Plan, adopted in 2024. The format will also help Town staff identify and report patterns and trends if more stringent conservation measures are required in the future.

Feedback Opportunity for Sunnyvale’s Future

The Town of Sunnyvale continues its work to update the Town’s comprehensive plan. The Imagine Sunnyvale Comprehensive Plan will serve as the Town’s official guide for land use and development for the next 20 years. The Comprehensive Plan will address several key topics, including future land use; residential, commercial and employment development; transportation; community facilities; and public infrastructure.

The Draft Core Elements chapters are now available on the comprehensive plan website for the community to review and provide additional feedback. This draft was presented during a Community Open House in mid-June. Feedback from those participants has been incorporated into the revised core elements.

Be sure to provide any feedback to the Comprehensive Plan Core Elements chapter via the Sunnyvale Core Elements comment card before it closes on Monday, August 17.

Residents can track the project's progress and upcoming opportunities to be involved through the project website. To learn more about the process, contact the Town of Sunnyvale Planning and Development Department at AskPlanning@townofsunnyvale.org or 972-203-4188.

Say Hi to Tater!

Tater is a 2-year-old male mixed-breed dog.

Though he arrived as a stray who was initially very shy and scared of the big world, Tater has officially blossomed! He has completely come out of his shell and is now a vibrant, happy boy who absolutely adores playing with his toys. He also has a striking feature: eyes of two different colors.

He has the perfect blend of youthful energy and a sweet, resilient spirit. He is ready to leave his past behind and find the forever family he deserves. Could you be his match?

We would love for you to share this with others and bring awareness of the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter's animals and services. If your family is ready to welcome a new member, the shelter currently has many adoptable pets looking for loving homes. Learn more by visiting our Petfinder page or calling 214-862-4525.
