Filing Deadline for May 2, 2026 Election Next Week

On Monday, Feb. 9, the Town of Sunnyvale will call a General Election for May 2, 2026, to elect two Town Council Members, designated as Places 3 and 4. Council Member terms are for a period of three years. All incumbents – Manu Danny, Place 3; and Holly Garland, Place 4 - are eligible to run for re-election.

The period for submitting an application for a place on the May 2, 2026, ballot runs through Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at 5 p.m.

For more information about the Council election, visit the Town Secretary's page on the website.

Upcoming Charter Amendment Election

The Sunnyvale Town Council is required to appoint a Charter Review Committee at least every five years to review the Town Charter for needed updates. Such updates would be to bring the Charter into compliance with State law, address any legal or administrative issues, and improve the effective application of the Charter to current conditions.

A nine-person committee began meeting last summer and has brought forward a variety of Charter amendments to be put before Town voters in the May 2 election. Many of those changes are procedural in nature. The amendments include the creation of a Parks and Recreation Board and the requirement for a Library Board, which currently exists.

The proposed amendments also include term limits for the Mayor and Town Council members and would change the Mayor's term from two years to three years.

For more information about the proposed Charter amendments, visit the Town Secretary's page on the website.

Get to know Red!

Learn more about this pet and others on our Petfinder page

Red is a one-year-old female Shepherd Pit Mix: Red is a wonderful pup patiently waiting adoption. She is full of enthusiasm and would thrive with an active adopter who can provide structure, daily exercise, and basic training. With guidance and consistency, she has great potential to become a loyal and well-mannered companion. Red would make a great addition to any house or family that wants her kindness and playfulness.

We would love for you to share this with others and bring awareness to the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter's animals and services. If your family is ready to welcome a new member, we currently have many adoptable pets in our shelter looking for a loving home. Learn more by visiting our Petfinder page or calling (214) 862-4525.
