Back to School Safety Reminders

The Sunnyvale Police Department is gearing up to protect our students as they return to school from the summer break. Here are some important reminders:

  • Slow down and watch for children in school zones.
  • School zones are in effect from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. each morning, and 2:30 to 4:20 p.m. each afternoon. The speed limit is 20 mph.
  • Put your phones down. Stay alert and focus on the road. Cell phone use is prohibited in school zones.
  • Buckle up to protect yourself and others.
  • Be patient. A few extra minutes can save a life.

Thank you for helping keep our students safe every day!

For more information on the general requirements for outdoor burning, please visit here.

Sewer Smoke Testing to Begin Week of Aug. 10

The Town of Sunnyvale is planning to begin its sanitary sewer smoke-testing process the week of Aug. 10. This process helps identify potential issues that may affect system performance.

The Town will work in the Deer Creek, Stoney Creek 5B and Stoney Creek 5A subdivisions, as well as around the Sunnyvale ISD campuses. The area will include the following streets (see the map graphic below):

Deer Creek Lane

Brazos Lane

Medine Lane

Blanco Lane

Bufflehead Court

Robin Ridge

Claire Court

Sunset Court

Madison Court

Mallard Drive

Smoke testing will be conducted by Town staff, usually during normal business hours, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. No Town staff will need to access the inside of your home during testing.

More information is available on the Town’s website at https://sunnyvaletx.gov/678/Sewer-Smoke-Testing. If you have additional questions, please contact the Public Works department at 972-226-7177 option 6.

Feedback Opportunity for Sunnyvale’s Future

The Town of Sunnyvale continues its work to update the Town’s comprehensive plan. The Imagine Sunnyvale Comprehensive Plan will serve as the Town’s official guide for land use and development for the next 20 years. The comprehensive plan will address several key topics, including future land use and development of residential, commercial and employment areas, transportation, community facilities and public infrastructure.

The DRAFT Core Elements chapters are now available on the comprehensive plan website for the community to review and provide additional feedback. This draft was presented during a Community Open House in mid-June. Feedback from those participants has been incorporated into the revised core elements.

We encourage all residents, business owners and local stakeholders to view the document labeled “Draft Core Elements” and fill out the comment card survey available on the comprehensive plan website home page.

Residents should track the project's progress and upcoming opportunities to be involved through the project website. To learn more about the process, explore the website or contact the Town of Sunnyvale Planning and Development Department at AskPlanning@townofsunnyvale.org or 972-203-4188.

Say Hi to Sassy!

Meet Sassy, a beautiful nine-year-old female domestic short-haired tabby who is ready to become the center of your world. True to her name, she has plenty of personality but also loves to cuddle and stay snug next to you!

Sassy has officially entered her golden years and is looking for a peaceful retirement home where relaxation is the top priority. She is the ultimate companion for lazy Sunday afternoons, movie marathons, and long naps in the sun. If you have an empty lap, a warm blanket, and plenty of love to give, Sassy will gladly spend the rest of her days purring right by your side. She doesn't ask for much—just a kind human to lounge with!

We would love for you to share this with others and bring awareness to the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter's animals and services. If your family is ready to welcome a new member, we currently have many adoptable pets in our shelter looking for a loving home. Learn more by visiting our Petfinder page or calling (214) 862-4525.
