Sunnyfest Set for June 28

The Town of Sunnyvale is excited to announce that award-winning country music artists Danielle Bradbery and David Nail will co-headline a full evening of live music, fireworks, drone show, food and family fun at the Town’s “Red, White and Boom!” Sunnyfest Celebration on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The Celebration will begin at 5 p.m. at Town Center Park, 356 E. Tripp Road.

The evening’s live music will feature artist Danielle Bradbery, a versatile and multifaceted recording artist who has spent the last decade crafting a unique and soulful sound that is rooted in country and blended with elements of pop, R&B and beyond.

The event will also feature David Nail. The GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter is respected up and down and beyond Music Row thanks to the multiple hits he has written or co-written.

Festivalgoers will also enjoy the music of country music newcomer Scoot Teasley, who has been immersed in music since childhood. He evolved from church pews to a drum kit and now creates authentic country tunes with R&B and Soul influences.

Sunnyvale residents will also hear a local voice on the festival stage. Kyrsta McKade is a graduate of Sunnyvale High School and will open the evening’s musical program.

While admission to the family-friendly event is free, we kindly ask attendees to bring a jar of peanut butter or canned food to help fill the local Sharing Life food pantry.

The Town is adding a new way for you to get updates about Sunnyfest, including reminders and updates about any last-minute changes before and during the event.

Sunnyvale Earns TAMIO, Hermes Awards

The Town of Sunnyvale has earned two awards for its public communications efforts.

The Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) recognized Sunnyvale's print newsletter, "The Sunnyvale Review," with an Award of Honor during last week's annual TAMIO Conference.

The Town of Sunnyvale produces two print newsletters each year, also available on the Town’s website. The newsletters are intended to give readers a look ahead to upcoming projects, events and initiatives and recap key activities that have occurred since the last edition.

The Town's "Sunnyvale State of the Town 2024" video earned a Hermes Gold Award in the Video (Electronic Media/Social Media/Interactive Media) category. This annual video showcased the Town's 2024 accomplishments and upcoming priorities for 2025 and features Sunnyvale's strong economic growth, infrastructure improvements, commitment to public safety, and effective fiscal policies.

Sunnyvale PD Earns Accreditation

During the June 9 Town Council meeting, the Sunnyvale Police Department was presented with the award of Accredited Law Enforcement Agency from the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) Law Enforcement Accreditation Program. Murphy Police Chief Jeff Gibson made the official presentation to Sunnyvale Police Chief Bill Vega.

Begun in 2006, the Accreditation Program evaluates a law enforcement agency’s compliance with 173 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement. Texas Law Enforcement professionals carefully developed these standards to assist agencies in efficiently and effectively delivering service and protecting individuals’ rights. These Best Practices cover all aspects of law enforcement operations, including use of force, protection of rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations, just to name a few.

The Sunnyvale Police Department was originally accredited by the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Accreditation Program in May 2021. Police agencies accredited by the TPCA must undergo an on-site inspection every fourth year, and this is the second successful on-site inspection by the Sunnyvale Police Department.

More details are available on the Town website.

East Tripp Road Construction Will Begin Soon

Construction will soon begin along East Tripp Road between Collins and East Fork to replace an aging water line, along with full pavement replacement. The project will also include targeted asphalt improvements for all of Tripp between Collins and Rebecca, along with Rebecca between Tripp and US 80. The Town is aware of the poor condition of the pavement surface along this stretch, so these initial improvements will start soon after the contract is awarded to help improve rideability.

The Town Council awarded the construction contract to Reliable Paving, Inc. at the May 12 meeting. Construction is expected to get underway in early June, and the contract includes incentives for the contractor to complete the portion adjacent to SISD before school starts in August. The remainder of the project is expected to wrap up in early 2026.

The Town Council also awarded a design contract at the April 28 meeting for a similar water line and pavement replacement project along the rest of Tripp Road between East Fork and Rebecca, and Rebecca from Tripp Road to US Highway 80. These design activities are expected to continue into early 2026, when that section will be ready for construction bidding.

Sunnyvale's Library Honors Juneteenth

The Doris Padgett Public Library is featuring books related to Juneteenth and its importance in history through the end of June. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Galveston, Texas, which marked the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.
