This week, Saji George was sworn in for his fourth full term as Mayor. Also, Ryan Finch was sworn in for his third full term as Place 1 Town Council representative, and Kevin M. Clark was sworn in for his third full term as Place 2's representative. All three individuals were elected in 2018 to serve one-year unexpired terms.

All three individuals were re-elected on May 3. The Mayor will serve a two-year term, while Council members will each serve a three-year term.

The Town Council holds regular public meetings at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Council Chambers, located at Town Hall 127 N. Collins Rd, Sunnyvale, TX 75182.

The Council may also call special meetings. All meetings are posted on the Town website in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

Sunnyvale to Update Comprehensive Plan, Future Land Use Maps

The Town of Sunnyvale Strategic Plan 2025 continues to emphasize the review and update of the Town’s long-range plans, including the Comprehensive Plan, which was last adopted in February 2017. Conditions within the Town and the surrounding municipalities have changed drastically during the last few years. As a result, it is important that the Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map are updated to reflect the realities of today and prepare the Town for future needs.

The Sunnyvale Comprehensive Plan will support the Town’s strategic vision of “a unique, rural community with small town values.” The plan will create a clear and concise land use and development strategy to direct the community's future growth while providing actionable implementation items to aid in its successful implementation over its 20-year lifetime.

The Town received an overwhelming response to the Request for Proposal (RFP) issued earlier this year. After a thorough review, the firm of Houseal Lavigne Associates, LLC was selected as the lead consultant for this planning initiative. The study will take approximately 18 months and consist of three phases of public engagement to gather stakeholder input. The project will kick off early this summer! Please stay tuned for more information on the Town website.

East Tripp Road Construction Will Begin Soon

Construction will soon begin along East Tripp Road between Collins and East Fork to replace an aging water line, along with full pavement replacement. The project will also include targeted asphalt improvements for all of Tripp between Collins and Rebecca, along with Rebecca between Tripp and US 80. The Town is aware of the poor condition of the pavement surface along this stretch, so these initial improvements will start soon after the contract is awarded to help improve rideability.

The Town Council awarded the construction contract to Reliable Paving, Inc. at the May 12 meeting. Construction is expected to get underway in early June, and the contract includes incentives for the contractor to complete the portion adjacent to SISD before school starts in August. The remainder of the project is expected to wrap up in early 2026.

The Town Council also awarded a design contract at the April 28 meeting for a similar water line and pavement replacement project along the rest of Tripp Road between East Fork and Rebecca, and Rebecca from Tripp Road to US Highway 80. These design activities are expected to continue into early 2026, when that section will be ready for construction bidding.

A Great Day for Sunnyvale's Trash Off!

Last Saturday, the Town of Sunnyvale hosted our Trash Off event, where residents could bring their bulk trash items for recycling and disposal. An estimated 400 households participated, filling six roll-off dumpsters with trash and two additional roll-offs with scrap metal. We're excited about the outstanding turnout! Thank you to Town Staff and Republic Services for contributing to another successful year!

Consider Adopting these Pets!

Rocky is a three-year-old male Russian Blue: Hello, I'm Rocky. My days are filled with quiet contemplation and gentle play. I'm a thinker, you see. I've mastered the art of opening doors, and I've even figured out how to turn on the faucet for a fresh drink. I'm not one for roughhousing. I prefer a peaceful snooze in a cozy corner. My purr, soft and soothing, is my way of showing gratitude for the simple pleasures.

Eddy is a two-year-old male Catahoula-American Staffordshire Terrier Mix: Hi there, I'm Eddy! Life's a game, and I'm always ready to play. Fetch? You bet! Hide and seek? Count me in! I've got energy to spare and love to share. I'm sweet as candy, always ready with a wagging tail and a playful bark. I'm looking for a forever friend who loves to play as much as I do. I promise to fill your days with laughter, joy, and endless games.

We would love for you to share this with others and bring awareness to the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter's animals and services. If your family is ready to add a member, we currently have many adoptable animals in our shelter looking for a new place to call home.
