Sunnyvale Police Department Receives “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” from the Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program

The Sunnyvale Police Department has received the award of Accredited Law Enforcement Agency from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.

Begun in 2006, the Accreditation Program evaluates a law enforcement agency’s compliance with 173 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement. Texas Law Enforcement professionals carefully developed these standards to assist agencies in efficiently and effectively delivering service and protecting individuals’ rights. These Best Practices cover all aspects of law enforcement operations, including use of force, protection of rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations, just to name a few.

The Sunnyvale Police Department was initially accredited by the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Accreditation Program in May 2021. Police agencies accredited by the TPCA must undergo an on-site inspection every fourth year, and this is the second successful on-site inspection by the Sunnyvale Police Department.

To learn more about the accreditation process, visit the Town's website.

Monthly Test for Sunnyvale’s Outdoor Warning System Scheduled for June 4

The Town of Sunnyvale tests its outdoor warning siren system at noon on the first Wednesday of each month if weather conditions are favorable.

The outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors to seek shelter and additional information about the nature and severity of the threat. While severe weather and tornadoes are the most common causes for sirens to be activated, this system is intended to be used as an “all-hazards” alert system.

Sunnyvale residents are also encouraged to register for the Town’s mass notification system to receive emergency alerts via text, email or phone.

East Tripp Road Construction Will Begin Soon

Construction will soon begin along East Tripp Road between Collins and East Fork to replace an aging water line, along with full pavement replacement. The project will also include targeted asphalt improvements for all of Tripp between Collins and Rebecca, along with Rebecca between Tripp and US 80. The Town is aware of the poor condition of the pavement surface along this stretch, so these initial improvements will start soon after the contract is awarded to help improve rideability.

The Town Council awarded the construction contract to Reliable Paving, Inc. at the May 12 meeting. Construction is expected to get underway in early June, and the contract includes incentives for the contractor to complete the portion adjacent to SISD before school starts in August. The remainder of the project is expected to wrap up in early 2026.

The Town Council also awarded a design contract at the April 28 meeting for a similar water line and pavement replacement project along the rest of Tripp Road between East Fork and Rebecca, and Rebecca from Tripp Road to US Highway 80. These design activities are expected to continue into early 2026, when that section will be ready for construction bidding.

Learn more about this pet and others on our Petfinder page

Charlie is a six-month-old Great Dane mix. He has had a second round of puppy vaccines and will be neutered soon.

Hi, I'm Charlie! Life's a game and I'm always ready to play. Tug-of-war? Yes, please! Fetch? I'm your guy. I've got an abundance of energy waiting to be shared with you. I'm also a top-notch cuddler. I can turn any lap into a cozy bed. My silly antics will keep you laughing and my sweet nature will warm your heart. I'm a loyal friend, always ready to give and receive love. I dream of finding a family who will embrace my playful spirit and cherish me. Adopting me means endless joy, laughter, and unconditional love. What could be better than that?

Shaggy is a seven-month-old Airedale Wire Terrier. He is fully vetted & neutered.

Hi there, I'm Shaggy! I'm just a pup, but boy, do I have energy! I love to play, and I can make anything into a game. A crumpled paper ball? That's a soccer match waiting to happen! I'm a bit goofy, too. I can't help but trip over my own paws sometimes. But that's all part of the fun, right? My days are filled with play, naps, and more play. I can't wait to find my forever home, where I can share all this energy and love. If you're looking for a playful, goofy, energetic friend, I'm your pup!

We would love for you to share this with others and bring awareness to the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter's animals and services. If your family is ready to add a member, we currently have many adoptable animals in our shelter looking for a new place to call home.
