Voters Approve Charter Amendments

Sunnyvale voters approved each of the proposed Town Charter amendments on May 2. Many of these updates would bring the Charter into compliance with State law updates, address any legal or administrative issues, and improve the effective application of the Charter to current conditions.

The approved amendments include the creation of a Parks and Recreation Board.

The amendments also approved implementing term limits for the Mayor and Town Council members to three three-year consecutive terms and changing the Mayor's term from two years to three years. All positions must sit out for three years following the conclusion of three consecutive terms before being eligible to run for any office again. These term limits go into effect in 2026, except for the Mayor and Council Members for Places 5 and 6, for whom term limits begin after their current terms end in 2027.

The Town Council will canvass the vote during its May 11 meeting and have the online Charter document updated by mid-June.

For more information about the Charter amendments, visit the Town Secretary's page on the website.

Trash Off Keeps Sunnyvale Shining!

Following a two-week weather delay, more than 200 people got a boost to their spring cleaning by bringing bulky waste, yard waste and old documents to drop off during the Keep Sunnyvale Shining Trash Off on May 2.

Sunnyvale residents could drop off their items for free. Non-residents paid a small fee. See the video recap below:

Talkin' about Tigger!

Tigger is a two-year-old male domestic Short Hair:

Tigger is a young cat, still full of energy. Tigger has a wonderful and fun personality, which shows in his antics during playtime. He is also very cuddly, on his own terms, of course! He’s vocal about being here in the shelter, as he frequently wants attention. Tigger is very curious too, as he loves to explore his surroundings. He is fully vetted and ready for his new person or family!

We would love for you to share this with others and bring awareness to the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter's animals and services. If your family is ready to welcome a new member, we currently have many adoptable pets in our shelter looking for a loving home. Learn more by visiting our Petfinder page or calling (214) 862-4525.
