Sunnyvale Animal Shelter Updates

An update from the Animal Shelter regarding the Canine Distemper Outbreak

The Town of Sunnyvale Animal Shelter is now making dogs available for adoption after the Town was able to contain and eliminate a canine distemper outbreak. Town personnel worked with a veterinarian to treat and quarantine potentially exposed dogs.

Canine distemper is highly contagious and potentially fatal to dogs. It's caused by a virus that attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems. While there is no cure, vaccination is highly effective in preventing it. The illness can be treated by managing symptoms and providing supportive care. The shelters’ cats were not affected by this outbreak.

Sunnyvale Residents Urged to Take Survey

The Town of Sunnyvale is working to update the Town’s comprehensive plan and needs to hear from the community.

The Imagine Sunnyvale Comprehensive Plan will serve as the Town’s official guide for land use and development for the next 20 years. When completed, the Imagine Sunnyvale Comprehensive Plan will be the product of the community, with a vision and recommendations guided by valuable input from residents, business owners, community leaders, and other stakeholders.

Residents, business owners and operators, property owners, developers and community stakeholders are encouraged to complete the Online Community Survey The survey contains questions about important issues and opportunities facing the Town that the Comprehensive Plan planning process seeks to address. The survey will be available until Sept. 15. Your feedback is essential to creating a successful plan for our community!
