These boards play an important role in supporting and enhancing our town’s services and quality of life. If you are interested in contributing your time and talents to help guide the future of our Town, we encourage you to apply.

Volunteering on a board is a great way to get involved, make a difference, and serve your community. If you are interested in serving in one of these positions, please apply online. For questions, please contact the Town Secretary at (972) 226-7177 or by email. All applications will be filed and reviewed by the Town Council at the time of appointments.

Visit Sunnyvale's 9/11 Memorial in the Town Hall Lobby

The Town of Sunnyvale reflects and remembers the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

This year, the Town is honoring the victims with a display in the Town Hall lobby, which includes photos, information and an American flag that includes the victims’ names. We also have index cards by the display for visitors to write a prayer or personal memory to add to the display. Plan to visit Town Hall on Friday, Sept. 11, to share your thoughts.

Sunnyvale Fire Department will also be flying the Flag of Heroes, displaying the names of first responders who served and gave their lives that day.

Attend the Comprehensive Plan Open House

Stop by anytime on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. to ask questions and talk with the project team and Town staff before the Imagine Sunnyvale Comprehensive Plan is finalized and moves into the adoption process.

Sunnyvale Fire Department Offers

Tips for Fire Safety at Home as Part of National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month, an excellent reminder to make sure your home and workplace are prepared.

A small fire can turn into a major fire in just minutes. The Sunnyvale Fire Department offers several tips to help homeowners prevent home fires and prepare in advance of such an incident.

Be aware that fires produce smoke and toxic gases that kill more people than flames do. Make sure you have working smoke alarms in your home on every level. Replace the batteries twice a year. Replace the entire smoke alarm unit every 10 years or according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and know how to use it. You can contact the Sunnyvale Fire Department for information on proper use and maintenance.

Create a fire escape plan for your family and practice it. That plan should include:

  • Finding two ways to get out of each room in the event the primary exit is blocked by fire or smoke.
  • Make sure windows are not stuck, screens can be taken out quickly and that security bars can be properly opened.
  • Designate a meeting location so you can better account for everyone in your household.

Other prevention tips include:

  • Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling or broiling food. Turn off the stove if you leave the kitchen.
  • Check for frayed wiring and replace all worn, old or damaged appliance cords.
  • Keep combustible objects at least three feet away from portable heating devices or other heat sources.

We Love Kimmy!

Kimmy is a 3-year-old Doberman mix.

This pup is one of the Shelter’s favorites. This sweetheart was previously a stray that we caught. Once she became a member of the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter, she gave birth to a litter of pups. Since then, she has undergone heartworm treatment, and now she needs to find her forever home.

We are passionate about finding permanent homes for all the animals in the shelter. Come visit them at the Sunnyvale Animal Shelter, 371 Long Creek Road. Learn more by visiting our Petfinder page or calling 214-862-4525.

Congrats to Slate!

The Animal Shelter is happy to announce that Slate has finally been adopted! He has spent 340 days at the shelter, but has been a wonderful pup the whole time. Slate has been our favorite dog to take care of at the Animal Shelter, but we couldn't be happier that he has found his forever home.
