Dear St. Joseph Academy Community,
Saturday night was a special moment for St. Joseph Academy. For the first time in over two years we were able to gather in person for a big event… and what an evening it was. The Barn Bash and Benefit brought over 250 people to the Tringali Barn for our annual auction. With food provided by a skilled Rotarian group of BBQ experts, a rocking performance by local band Chilulla, decorating by Tara Regan and a masterful job of planning by Jodi Kotrady-Hatin with her Co-Chairs Deb Buenaflor, Melinda Weber and their amazing group of volunteers, the night was a phenomenal success. Big thanks to Chris and Dawn Shee for use of the venue, Mike Davis for serving as a very entertaining MC, and to Bradley Bean for working as our live auctioneer. What a night!
Now, we are amid the most important week of our curriculum experience next to graduation week itself. Mission Week. I read an article recently talking about the declining rates of volunteerism during the pandemic. We ourselves have seen the impact on our students who have missed out on the life changing moments brought about by our Mission Trips. What we couldn’t lose, and have worked hard to protect, is an opportunity for students and teachers alike to go out into the St. Augustine community to make a positive impact. This week will be a mix of prayer, reflection, service and fellowship. It will also be what students make of it. We have a few special moments planned as well, to include a visit from the Chinocalo community to share their witness, Fr. Mac sharing his gifts, with praise and worship music being incorporated as well. It is both my prayer and my expectation that the events of this week, from the subtle to the dramatic, will leave a lasting impression on our students.
We are keeping a watchful eye on the weather for those events that would be outside and have some back up plans as necessary. A growing group of students have also been tackling campus beautification projects, from raking leaves and pulling spring weeds, to painting dugouts and cleaning bleachers. Many hands make the work light (and we hope a little fun!).
Thanks for giving of yourselves in the name of Service, Flashes!
Todd DeClemente
Principal
