The PLEX Recreation Center Breaks Ground

On Monday, October 12, 2026, City officials and local elected representatives came together with project contractors to mark the next chapter for Vista Park with an official groundbreaking.

Vista Park opened in June 2005 and has become an important part of the community and recreation system. For over 20 years, Weston has looked forward to additional indoor recreation and gathering space. The City Commission voted to bring a new recreation facility to its residents.

The PLEX at Vista Park represents a significant investment in recreation and quality of life for residents. The complex will provide many of the amenities the community has been asking for.

Inside, the PLEX will feature multipurpose courts and a gymnasium, an upstairs walking and running track, multipurpose rooms, and supporting facilities. Outside, the project will include a shaded playground, a splash pad, shaded multipurpose courts and additional parking. The project will also convert two existing soccer fields to artificial turf to expand usability and add a new secondary access to and from Vista Park Drive to improve circulation.

Most importantly, this project directly responds to the needs identified in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Postcards from Weston

Chalk in the Park

The weather forecast threatened this year’s event, but the threat of rain did not dampen the creativity! Families came out to Library Park on Saturday morning to enjoy the chance to create art along the park’s sidewalks. This year’s theme – Postcards from Weston – gave artists of all skill levels the opportunity to highlight their favorite things about our City, in honor of Weston’s 30th anniversary this year.

The event has a following since its inception, born out of the years of social distancing as we came out of the COVID pandemic. Some families attend each year and sharpen their skills, adding to their chalk art tools (there were toolboxes of chalk, tape, yardsticks, cups of water to create a watercolor effect and more!) New fans were made by those who made the trip to walk through the art and decided to stay and create their own masterpiece.

Special thanks to Weston’s Parks and Recreation Department and to The Arts Council of Greater Weston for hosting Chalk in the Park annually.

Kickball, Community and a Great Evening

Chillin' with BSO

Weston’s Chillin’ with BSO event brought residents and members of BSO Weston Police and Fire Rescue together for a little friendly competition, plenty of smiles and a spirited game of kickball. For our youngest residents, it was a chance to share the field with some of their hometown heroes, while families enjoyed getting to know the officers and firefighters who serve our community every day.

A big thank you to our BSO Weston Police and Fire Rescue teams for making the evening so special and to all the families who came out to join the fun. Events like these remind us that building a strong community is about more than keeping it safe. It’s about building friendships and connections that make Weston such a special place to call home.

Driving School

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month

National Pedestrian Safety Month is a time to promote awareness, reduce pedestrian fatalities, and encourage safer behavior among drivers and pedestrians. Pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility, so it’s important for both motorists and pedestrians alike to remain vigilant on the roadway and behind the wheel.

Pedestrian Walking Tips

  • Never enter the street from between parked cars. If crossing mid-block cannot be avoided, pedestrians must yield right of way to vehicles on the roadway.
  • Be visible at all times. Wear bright clothing during the day and wear reflective materials or use a flashlight at night. Never assume a driver sees you. Make eye contact with drivers as they approach to make sure you are seen.
  • Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or backing up in parking lots.

Motorist Safety Tips

  • As drivers, you must be prepared to slow or stop at any time – for emergency vehicles, buses, bicyclists, animals, other motorists slowing to turn, and other situations.
  • All sides of the intersection are crosswalks – marked or not, regardless of whether the sidewalk is paved or not.
  • Be extra cautious when backing up—pedestrians can move into your path.
