Celebrating the Women of Immanuel

"Faith That Feeds"
We believe that faith should feed and nurture our spirits.
We believe also that faith should lead us to feed people
in the many different ways they hunger,
both physically and spiritually.

Hybrid Sunday Worship

The Second Sunday in Lent &

Blessing of Quilts

March 16, 2025

Though we sometimes doubt and often resist God’s desire to protect and save us, our God persists. In holy baptism, God’s people have been called and gathered into a God-initiated relationship that will endure. Lent provides the church with a time and a tradition in which to seek God’s face again. Lent provides another occasion to behold the God of our salvation in the face of the Blessed One who “comes in the name of the Lord.”

Centuries of Sackbut Concert

Tomorrow, Saturday, March 15, 2025, 3:00 pm

Immanuel Sanctuary

The Ravenswood Trombone Quartet will perform on Sat. March 15, 2025 at 3:00 pm with a medley of pieces from ancient to contemporary. The concert, titled Centuries of Sackbut ("sackbut" is an ancient word for an early form of the trombone) features selections by composers Franz Joseph Haydn, Caterina Assandra, Felix Mendelssohn, and Melba Liston, among others.

Formed in 2024, the Ravenswood Trombone Quartet represents some of Chicago's busiest trombone performers and educators. Hailing from as close as Belmont and Ashland to as far as Atlanta, Georgia, they explore the 500-year history of their instrument with curiosity and creativity.

Please invite your family and friends to this rare opportunity to hear a local talented and diverse ensemble. Admission is free. (You'll see a familiar face as Catie Hickey has performed previously at Immanuel as a guest musician for several special worship services.)

Going Farther, Staying Longer: Celebrating 80 Years of LWR

In 1945, our Lutheran forebearers joined together to be the Body of Christ in the world, responding boldly to the needs of our neighbors in Europe after World War II. When they founded Lutheran World Relief, the outpouring of love was immense. Our grandparents got busy sewing LWR Mission Quilts, assembling kits and organizing fundraising drives.

Within just 14 years, American Lutherans had provided more than $100 million worth of aid. And we were just getting started.

With each passing year, God has opened our hearts to the ever-growing needs in our hurting world, and our ministry has grown. Today, together, we go where no one else goes — to the front lines of war, and to places even cars can't reach. And we stay as long as we’re needed to help families recover and rebuild.

Thank you for continuing the legacy of love that began 80 years ago … until your love reaches every neighbor. Learn more about Lutheran World Relief’s history at https://lwr.org/80
