"Faith That Feeds"
We believe that faith should feed and nurture our spirits.
We believe also that faith should lead us to feed people
in the many different ways they hunger,
both physically and spiritually.

Hybrid Sunday Worship

The Ninth Sunday of Pentecost

July 26, 2026

Service at 10:30 am

As Solomon prays for wisdom, we seek to more deeply know the treasures of faith. In today’s gospel Jesus offers everyday images that reveal to us the reign of God: a tree that becomes a sheltering home, yeast that penetrates and expands, a treasured pearl, a net that gains a great catch. Even as we seek the riches of God’s reign, the great surprise is that God’s grace finds us first!

Sunday Worship

Prelude begins at 10:20 am

Welcome New Members!

Last Sunday, July 19, 2026, Immanuel welcomed two new members! The Rev. Michael & Carole Wonderlich were received in membership during worship service. Rev. Michael has preached at Immanuel many times before, so he's a familiar face. When you get a chance, be sure to introduce yourselves when you see them!

Ami Hatori is the daughter of Akiko Hatori, a participant of the quilting ministry. Ami received a Master's degree from Northwestern University and has played for Immanuel worship services.

BATTLE OF THE LUTHERANS!

"and that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not save by sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord's and he will give you into our hand." 1 Samuel 17: 47

"Strength & Honor"

for

National Underwear Day!

Collection is two more Sundays only: Sun. July 26th & Aug. 2nd!

At the past week's Lutheran Collective meeting, the upcoming underwear collection drive for Connections for the Homeless was discussed. Underwear is a big need for agencies, and this drive helps put a bit of a dent in the need for Connections.

A friendly, inter-congregational competition was hatched! Which congregation can supply the most underwear?! Each congregation will be responsible for counting the number of pairs of underwear they collect to determine the winner. At our next joint worship, Reformation, the winning congregation will be announced and recognized!

Participating congregations:

  • Trinity Lutheran Church
  • St. John's Lutheran - Wilmette
  • St. Paul's Lutheran
  • Immanuel Lutheran
  • Grace Lutheran

The Goods (from Connections)

New, in-package, adult underwear is one of our greatest needs. It's a resource that we don't have a sustainable solution for (unlike Bombas socks, hygiene kit drives, community-support clothing donations, etc.). National Underwear Day was a marketing scheme created by underwear brands, and last year we wondered if we could use that "holiday" to mobilize our community to help meet this most basic need.

This year we have set a new goal of collection 5,000 pairs of underwear to benefit Hilda's Place.

Collection Logistics

Dates: Now through August 2nd

Items: New, adult underwear

Men's boxer briefs, sizes S-XL (we have enough size XXL+)

Women's briefs, sizes S-XL (we have enough size XXL+)

See our (click the orange) Amazon wish list for examples

Underwear will be collected at Immanuel on Sundays July 26th & August 2nd. There is a labeled box in Fellowship Hall by the stage. Or drop them off to the church office Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursday.

There will be a National Underwear Day Drive-Through Party on Saturday, August 8th at 9am-11am at Hilda's Place, across the street on Lake St. from Immanuel.

At Interfaith Action, we don't think anyone should have to go hungry. Interfaith Action supports four weekly Evanston Soup Kitchens, open to all and serving over 300 people per week. In these uncertain times of SNAP (food stamp) benefit changes, Interfaith Action says YES to providing a reliable source of nutritious meals at the Soup Kitchens.

You can say YES to these Soup Kitchens with your donation today. You can help Interfaith Action make sure that hungry people can rely on the Interfaith Action Soup Kitchens being there for them.

And you can say YES by volunteering at a Soup Kitchen. Could you and your team volunteer to prepare and serve a meal at a Soup Kitchen? See volunteer info here. Thank you!
