KidneyCAN Town Hall Recap:

Bringing You the Latest Research News

We held our popular research Town Hall webinar in January. Renowned clinical kidney cancer researchers Dr. Rana McKay (UC San Diego) and Dr. Hans Hammers (UT Southwestern) shared a retrospective of 2022 breakthroughs, along with a look forward at what we can expect in 2023.

Their presentations were followed by a lively Q & A session with patients from all over the country. If you missed the live event, you can watch the video and see all the resources shared on our website:

SAVE THE DATE: Our next Town Hall, titled “Making the Most of More Time: Stories of Survivorship,” will be on April 25, 2023.

KidneyCAN President Bryan Lewis connected with former NCI Director Ned Sharpless at the ASCO GU conference held in mid-February.

Research Funding Requires Advocacy!

Join Us for Spring Kidney Cancer Advocacy Days

KidneyCAN will be on the ground in Washington, D.C. (and virtually all over the country) for our Spring Kidney Cancer Advocacy Days on March 13-14!

We still need folks willing to share their story and ask Congress to fund kidney cancer research. Please plan to join us, and invite your family and friends!

KidneyCAN Community Spotlight:

Chuck Stravin: “With Time Comes Hope”

For this month’s Community Spotlight, we are sharing the story of our friend Chuck, who was diagnosed with stage IV kidney cancer in 2015.

Since his diagnosis, Chuck has become an ambassador for kidney cancer patients, speaking to doctors and researchers about patients' experiences. He also advocates for research funding. In this feature, Chuck reflects on time and hope, as well as the critical need for continued research.

A cancer diagnosis changes your life. Your life is never the same, but with time comes hope that we will someday find a cure. And hope that, for patients like me, the next clinical trial is the one that keeps the cancer under control with fewer side effects and a better quality of life.

Sometimes, time and hope are all we have."
