TxDOT breaks ground on I-35 improvement project
The Texas Department of Transportation joined local officials Wednesday, March 9, to break ground on a project that will construct an extended entrance and exit lane on Interstate 35 between US 79 and State Highway 45 North. The project will also shift the median barrier, restripe the southbound Interstate 35 main lanes and install high-mast lighting. The $8.4 million project is expected to be complete in early 2023, weather permitting.
Wastewater plant experiencing excess flows
The City of Round Rock announced Friday that the Brushy Creek Regional Wastewater System Treatment Plant is experiencing a significant increase in the amount of wastewater it is receiving, putting the plant above its permitted discharge levels for volume of wastewater, total suspended solids and E. coli. Drinking water is NOT affected, and officials believe the recent increase is due to groundwater and surface water inadvertently entering the sewer system.

Save water and money with rain barrel sale
The City of Round Rock is selling rain
barrels at a discounted price through March 27 to encourage residents to conserve water resources and protect water quality.
The 50-gallon, black barrels cost $77.50
each. You do not have to be a City water customer or resident to purchase barrels.

Along the recently-designated Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Round Rock stands a one-room church that has withstood the test of time.

St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church is not the biggest church in Round Rock, nor does it have the most congregants; however, long-time member and Round Rock resident Ella Sauls Morrison says the congregation has a “small but mighty” reputation that continues today.

The church was founded in 1885 as the first African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church in Round Rock. The founding members’ names are etched in stone at the church’s entrance. While many of the families still have generations living in Round Rock today, the church has seen significant changes — including a move across Interstate 35.

Join the City of Round Rock each Wednesday evening in March for free, hands-on demonstrations to learn how to find and fix water leaks around your property.

Recycling Center begins new schedule

The Round Rock Recycling Center is now closed to the public on Sundays. The center, which is located at 310 Deep Wood Drive, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Recycling Center also hosts Household Hazardous Waste Collection events on the first Wednesday of each month, 3-6 p.m. Learn about the Recycling Center at roundrocktexas.gov/recyclingcenter.
