Library opens Business Plan Competition
Ready to start kickstart your dream into reality? The Round Rock Public Library is now accepting submissions to the recently announced Biz.ability Business Plan Competition. Targeted to Round Rock-based startup entrepreneurs, the competition features prizes worth more than $13,500 thanks to program partnerships with the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce and Dell Technologies.  

Council holds first vote to lower wastewater rates
The Round Rock City Council unanimously voted Jan. 13 to move forward with a plan to lower wastewater rates and maintain current water rates for residential customers over the next three years. Wastewater volume rates, which are charged for usage above the base rate, will decrease by 8.8%. For residential customers using 10,000 gallons of water and 8,000 gallons of wastewater per month, the change will create $2.40 in savings per month.

Glaiser officially named Round Rock Fire Chief
Assistant Fire Chief Shane Glaiser, who has served in an interim capacity since Oct. 1, 2021, has been named Chief of the Round Rock Fire Department. Glaiser began his career in Round Rock in June 1995 and has steadily promoted through the ranks over the last 26 years. He was promoted to Assistant Chief in 2017, and helped oversee the construction of the Public Safety Training Center that opened in 2018.  

Citizens Police Academy accepting applications
The Round Rock Police Department is currently accepting applications for the Citizens Police Academy, a 12-week course that gives participants a behind the scenes look at the many functions of the police department. Participants gain an inside perspective on the realities of life as a police officer through participation in activities such as patrol scenarios, a SWAT demonstration and more.

This year's Daddy Daughter Dance, featuring the theme "You Are My Sunshine," will be an evening of fun family memories as fathers and daughters dance the night away. Dads and daughters of all ages are welcome. Tickets are limited and can be purchased for $15. There will be a professional photographer for an additional fee.

Green Thumbs Up: Preparing Garden Tools

The Texas Master Gardener Association is presenting a free monthly gardening program, Green Thumbs Up on preparing garden tools for spring. Master Gardener Tommy King will discuss how to get your lawn mower ready for spring, repair handles and sharpen blades on your hand tools and other maintenance tips for your tools.

Safely dispose of residential paint and other household chemicals during the monthly Household Hazardous Waste Collection. The event is free for City of Round Rock water utility customers. Please bring your driver’s license and City water bill as proof of residency. We accept only residential waste in quantities of 25 gallons or less.
