Happy New Year OLG!
Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

This has been quite a week coming back to school! Thank you to all families for working together with us on re-establishing those school-wide expectations and "new years resolutions" this first week of 2022!!! Thank you also for your understanding and patience as our teachers rise to this most current challenge of extra absences and navigating needed changes to lesson planning and assessments. Alongside of you, our staff is working incredibly hard and making the most out of a challenging situation. Here is some data of the current week and some reassurances of the strength of our covid resilience:
  • Vaccinations -- Thank you families for updating us with verified vaccination status with the school office (email a pic or simply present in person). If unvaccinated or in case of an extended absence, this resource page can be helpful in answering questions as well! Classes that have completed this process are our middle school classes with almost 90% vaccinated (or in-process). Younger grades are still reporting-in.
  • COVID #'s -- 12 students this week have delayed returning to the classroom due to travel and/or positive tests and are following covid protocols. Additional short-term absences of non-covid-reasons kept us on our toes as well. Four staff have tested positive, two before returning and have cleared quarantine timelines while two others currently out for a few more days.
  • Two grade levels have been affected by Covid this week: Our preschool families were notified last night of a possible close contact and due to their unvaccinated status are following a precautionary move to remote learning. Our 7th grade class was notified this morning of a case but by strength of vaccinations and close monitoring of contact tracing and our protocols is able to remain in session.
  • Regarding a switch to Remote Learning -- We believe that in-person learning has numerous inherent benefits for academics and social-emotional health, and that we learn best in community! That being said, if we are forced to switch to Remote Learning due to any statewide mandate, Archdiocesan decision, or extraordinary number of absences of staff/students, we know we have the ability. As with any transition, there will be a time needed to make a switch.
  • Public Health and the Archdiocese is consulted on each and every case and we continue to receive kudos for our protocols and response. While CDC recently shortened quarantine timelines for the public, as schools we continue to follow the same precautionary measures and protocols of our more local authority. Read more here and here for details, or simple reach out to us at the school office if you have questions.
  • Thank you for your continued diligence and efforts to keep all our greater OLG Family safe! You make the difference!

As we move ahead into the new year, keep an eye out for two important emails (and no, I'm not talking about tomorrow's spirit wear or Fulcrum deadlines!)... This is the time of year were we begin making plans for NEXT school year, so a special set of survey's is coming out soon, AND we begin the process of re-enrollment. If you have a new student from your family you'd like to enroll, please make sure you've completed a full application soon! Much more details below!
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

Battle of the Books Begins this Week!
This week in the Library, students in grades 4th-8th were introduced to the books selected for this year's Battle of the Books (BOTB) reading incentive program. This is the 4th year for this reading incentive program sponsored by Our Lady of Guadalupe’s school library. Students are encouraged but not required to participate. There are two levels: the intermediate level is for students in grades 4-6 and they will be reading books nominated for the Sasquatch Book Award. Middle school students (grades 6-8) will read several books nominated for either the Young Reader's Choice or the Evergreen Teen Book Award. For more information and a list of books, visit Mrs Sommerville's webpage.
