It's Back!!!!
Parent Org Meeting on Tuesday 6:30 pm Join us!
Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

I hope we can all enjoy a relaxing weekend... we've had a tremendous September and beginning to October... bear with me for this quick recap:
  • Enrollment steady at 234 total students...There is room in K & 5th grades for a few more; referrals appreciated!
  • 100% staff & on-campus volunteers vaccine verified! Note below, our campus has a Vaccine Clinic next weekend, Oct 17th, and we are preparing for the opportunity of a 5-11 yr old vaccine clinic as soon (in partnership with Holy Family as we did this spring with our older students)!
  • 0% Covid Spread on campus... while we have had students out through close contacts and/or positive tests, no spread has occurred. This week was our first case in our middle school (read here for details), and fortunately all are healthy. As one OLG Family we are working well together in daily health checks and healthy practices. THANK YOU!
  • Jog-A-Thon in the books ($28k+)! Read more below and/or attend Tuesday's PO meeting!
  • Aug Workparty, Loop-the-Lupe, Jogathon, Bark spreading, and more... so many volunteer efforts already underway... and always more ahead :)
  • Our first class-led All-School-Mass this past week, Fr. Kevin is visiting and blessing the classes, and our 3rd Grade Saints are getting in the groove!!!

WOW! We've accomplished so much together already this school year... This month of October we lean into our theme of "Year of the Family" with some of our biggest family events of our community: playing together (Halloween Carnival), giving gifts (Charleston Wrap), and dining together (CYO Italian Dinner)!

Oh... and let's not forget about learning... Our Fall Measurement of Academic Progress (MAPs) wraps-up this next week (more info here). Today's inservice included discussion of these and our other assessment and support tools. Preliminary data shows some pleasing results that we can attribute to our great efforts in the classroom and our homes through difficult times these past 18 months... including those who took part in our special summer tutoring offering. Our parent-teacher Fall Conferences (student led in many grades) are coming at the end of the month where we'll be able to share details of your child's work... save those dates and more to come on this topic next week!
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

OLG Immigrant Ministry is welcoming new members as we strive to provide direct service to immigrants in our community as well as advocate for just policies. We are also in the process of launching a new Multicultural Ministry to recognize and celebrate the many cultures present at OLG. If you are interested in joining us in these efforts, contact Jennifer. Our next meeting is Friday, October 8 at 10am

COVID Vaccine and Booster Clinic
On Sunday, Oct 17, OLG will host a COVID vaccine clinic in the Walmesley Center/gym 9:30am-1:30pm with both the Moderna and the Pfizer vaccine. You can get your first, second, or booster shot. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following groups should receive a Pfizer booster at least 6 months after completing their Pfizer primary series: people aged 65 and older, residents aged 18 years and older in long-term care settings, people aged 50-64 years with underlying medical conditions. They also recommend the following groups may receive a Pfizer booster: people 18-49 years with underlying medical conditions, people aged 18-64 years at increased risk for COVID exposure and transmission because of occupational and institutional setting. The CDC also recommends that people with moderately to severely compromised immune systems receive an additional does at least 28 days after a second dose of Pfizer or Moderna. You can learn more at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html

Care Kits for Afghan Refugees
You have undoubtedly seen images of Afghans fleeing Afghanistan following the U.S. withdrawal. It can be hard to know how to help when the problem seems so large and far away. Many Afghan families are being resettled in the area though and could use support as they start new lives in our community. To help, OLG Immigrant Ministry is organizing a care kit drive to collect items for Afghans being housed by local agencies. Click here for a list of needed items and bring donations to the Walmesley Center/gym on Sunday, Oct 17 from 9:30am-1:30pm. Thanks!
