Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

THANK YOU this Thanksgiving holiday weekend! Highlights of this past week include:
  • Student's win Veterans Essay awards (see picture)!
  • Auction awesomeness: WSBlog Post on Husky/Cougar auction basket fun and so much procurement already underway!
  • Wednesday After School Tutoring training took place... program begins next week and will increase from here as we continue to grow our tutor core (email Julie if interested)!
  • Vaccinations continue: Vaccinations are underway for all 5 and older! Keep it up OGL... and don't forget to verify vaccination with school office after the second shot!
And also a couple of quick staffing updates as well. Our recently hired Development Director, Cathy Mitchell, has given notice of not continuing with us. I am thankful of her time with us, especially helping get our Giving Tuesday plans underway. We are actively seeking her replacement (see current OLG job posts here).
We are also looking forward to welcoming our new School Counselor, Kim Brunskill onto our staff. Here's a few notes she shared so you can know her a bit:
"A native of Northern California, I grew up camping and hiking in the Sierra Nevadas and tide pooling along the coast. Upon completing a double major in Creative Writing and Psychology at Dominican University of CA, I fled north to serve two years as an AmeriCorps volunteer in Oregon, where I absolutely fell in love with the Pacific Northwest! I gained a Masters of Science in Environmental Education from Southern Oregon University, which led to unique and life-changing experiences in outdoor education and recreation programs in Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

I am so excited to take my experiences working with youth these last two decades to serve as the OLG School Counselor. I am working on a Masters of Education in School Counseling from Prescott College and getting to know the local area, having just moved from Monroe. On the weekends, you may find me on the trails with my dog Scout or working in the garden. "

Kim's first day at OLG is this Monday and will have some opportunities to connect with students in classrooms, at recess, and in individual checkins as she joins us in this upcoming Advent season! Welcome Mrs. Brunskill!
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

Celebrating the Advent Season
This season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and to the anniversary of Our Lord’s birth on Christmas. From the earliest days of the Church, people have been fascinated by Jesus’ promise to come back. But the scripture readings during Advent tell us not to waste our time with predictions. Instead, our Advent readings call us to be alert and ready, not weighted down and distracted by the cares of this world (Lk 21:34-36).  Here are some ways to celebrate this season:
  • Our website has a variety of resources, including blessings for Advent wreaths, Christmas trees, and creches. In addition, there are several video reflections to enrich your prayer life.
  • Join us for our Advent Communal Reconciliation services on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 7:00 pm or Saturday, Dec. 18, 10:00 am.
  • Pick up one of the “Little Blue Advent Booklets” that provides daily reflections during the Advent and Christmas seasons based on the Scriptures. It is a great resource to enrich your prayer life during this holy season. If possible, a small donation of $3 to help offset the cost would be greatly appreciated. Available in the church vestibule or parish office.
