Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

Last night we held our State of the School event with re-registration information. Over 100 families attended and all families have received an email with more information on the re-enrollment process. More information here on next years' tuition and re-enrollment. The roughly 5% tuition increase for next year is dedicated to our fine staff at OLG. In analyzing our salaries in comparison to peer schools and Seattle Public (SPS), there is much ground to be made-up... while we are competitive amongst peer catholic schools, on average our teacher salaries are more than 30% lower than the average SPS teacher. We know we can't afford a 30% increase in one year, but continuing our 5% path year-to-year will bring us closer. Additional resources such as building our endowment and increasing other resources will catch us up even quicker! Why do our teachers love OLG and choose to work here? Because of great coworkers, you, and our greater community; because we are one family of learners; and because of the spirit and joy that surrounds OLG. But let's treat them right and keep going on closing this teacher pay gap.

Quick Covid update: only one new case this week! We have moved to the the five-day guidance; read more about the decision process here. All the layers of safety (testing, masking, distancing and more) continue to maintain safe in-person learning at our school. The Jay Inslee news conference this afternoon changes nothing at this time and will be reviewed with more local insight before his published March 21st implementation date.

I Care For Myself By...
This week in K - 8 we continued working on submissions for the Doodle for Google contest. The theme of "I care for myself by..." is an important SEL topic, especially in these turbulent times. Every student is asked to create a "doodle" and write a short artist statement, explaining what the theme means to them. Final creations will be celebrated during SEL classes next week.

Submission to the contest is voluntary, requires a guardian's signature, and can be done by uploading a picture of the completed Entry Form to the Doodle for Google website here. Families are encouraged to submit your student(s) completed entry forms by March 4th. If you are having technical difficulties, you may mail in a submission as long as it is postmarked by March 4. More info and completed entry forms will come home with students in K - 5 next week. Middle school students may be working on their doodles at home, and at least one has already submitted her creation!

Entries are judged by creativity, artistic merit, and theme communication and prizes are awarded on both the state and national level. 54 students from WA state alone will win a prize, 10 from each age group. And the national grand-prize winner will walk away with a $30,000 in college scholarship! You can see examples from past winners or learn more about the contest on the Doodle for Google website
