I begin with an apology for the delayed send of this week's newsletter. As the state-wide mask mandate is lifting this weekend, I focus here on our own school response. Throughout this pandemic, we at OLG have followed the guidance from Public Health experts and the requirements of our local authority. With the state-wide mask mandate ending on 3/12/22, we will begin with giving students an option of not wearing their masks during outdoor activities (recess, Outdoor PE, pickup, etc). This gives our students and staff an opportunity to comfortably adjust to new norms in a clearly defined setting, and keeps us consistent in all grades, from unvaccinated Preschool thru 8th grade. We will continue to wear our masks inside this next week.

Also starting Monday, March 14th the building opening time will shift to 8:15am while EDC has expanded morning capacity for those who need an earlier drop-off (starting at 7:30am).

We will continue with all other precautions we have had for the past two years: social distancing while eating, good ventilation, hand hygiene and indoor masks, as we collect more data on how the new proclamation is affecting our community. As with most of the challenges of this pandemic, individuals and families have had to make personal choices based on their comfort levels. As we make this transition together, please respectfully support the choice of individuals to wear outdoor masks or not. This is our next step in bringing back normalcy into our school day.

Speaking of normalcy, our Student Council wanted to make sure I reminded everyone of the school-wide Homeless and Homebound Care Kit Supply Drive. CLICK HERE for a list of supplies needed. Drop off items at the school or parish office.

OLG Parish invites you to participate in a Bystander Intervention Workshop. The in-person workshop will give you practical skills for interrupting bias, harassment, and bullying, as well as how to provide support to those being targeted. Join us on Saturday, March 19th from 1-4pm in the Walmesley Center Gym. This workshop is open to all adults and students in middle school or older, with a guardian present. Space is limited! Next PO Meeting: Tuesday April 12th

A number of parishioners have spent the past year learning about racial justice and equity through JustFaith’s modules and are now forming a Racial Solidarity Committee at OLG. We will work on creating relationships in our community with the residents of Catholic Housing Services’ Santa Teresita apartments and the Chose 180 program. We are also discerning involvement in the One Parish, One Prisoner program. If you would like to learn more and join us in the work, contact Jennifer. Our next meeting is Wednesday, Mar 16 at 6:30pm via Zoom.

Raúl and Lilian have faced many challenges while trying to provide for their family and pursue their dreams in Guatemala. With support from Catholic Relief Services, they have been able to overcome these obstacles and grow their business while helping their community along the way.
