Dear OLG Families,
There is much to celebrate this week! As we've enhanced our best practices with relaxed instructional distancing and mask requirements now allowed in the public health guidance, we have noticed a marked change in student engagement and wonderful interactions. Report cards are arriving in parent inboxes for the past trimester and we are very excited for the final trimester currently underway!
One note as we've returned to more normal entrance and exits times... the South (church) Parking Lot has seen significant increase in morning traffic. If you are not parking and have older children, we encourage you to use the regular carpool lot (big lot off the gym instead) for your morning drop-off needs! Stay safe and drive carefully!
This morning at All School Mass our 6th grade students led our service, while 1st grade partnered in providing prayer cards. Our readings today, and Fr Kevin's homily, were excellent reminders of how we are called to work together, be in harmony, and avoid the temptations of isolation, rumors, and destructive forces. Tomorrow morning we will be engaged in a worldwide prayer moment along with the entire Archdiocese and around the world.
As we move through this season of Lent, we are reminded to continue almsgiving, prayer, and fasting as we connect with eachother. The current synodal process in our church and across the world is an important moment for all faithful to bring our own voices to our church and connect in our faith journey. I highly encourage you to signup for a session. Youth in 7th grade and up are invited to a special session more focused on their needs. This is a rare moment in most of our lifetimes that the Catholic Church is seeking input from all. I am happy to see our leadership from the Pope all the way down to our local level seeking out the input on all topics. Your input is useful to our parish growth, as well the Archdiocese and the worldwide church.
Next week is our Accreditation visit. We welcome a team of 5 educators from Reno, NV and across our Archdiocese to review all our recent Vision Statement and Accreditation work, looking for towards the future of our school! We'll share out their findings and more about our upcoming school year in next week's newsletter!
In this newsletter you can find the following info:
- Lenten Fish Fry and Synodal activities ahead
- Day of Service & donation drive
- Registration (Due tomorrow for the $50 credit!)
- Musical update!
- Volunteer Opportunities (new and more each week), including exploring assistance to refugees...
- Loop the Lupe' news
and more...

AUCTION Report/Update!
Congrats to all as our auction was a huge success this year! Clare, Robyn, Heather, and the entire Auction Team did an incredible job in creating a online-for-all and ALSO a great return to a "Live" event! With over 250 participants and thousands of volunteer hours in all, we were able to meet and exceed our budgeted goals! We're clearing a few last invoices and receipts, but we can confidently report more than $80,000 in net revenue to the Parent Org plus an additional $25,000 direct to the the Fund-A-Need efforts! We'll report final numbers and update you on fund-a-need progress soon!

Youth Synod Gathering
"Let us ask: in the church, are we good at listening? How good is the hearing of our heart? Do we allow people to express themselves, to walk in faith even though they have had difficulties in life, and to be part of the life of the community without being hindered, rejected or judged?" ~ Pope Francis
For the first time in history, the Catholic Church is asking for input from all the faithful around the world. Pope Francis wants to hear from you! What is the Holy Spirit calling our Church to do and be? All Middle and High School Youth are invited to share your thoughts over a pizza dinner on Saturday, April 9. Join us for the 5:30pm Mass, then head over the Pastoral Center basement for a 1.5 hour conversation about the future of our Church. All 7th Grade and up youth are welcome and all belong! RSVP to Jennifer at jibach@olgseattle.org by 4/4.
Exploring Refugee issues
The OLG Immigrant Ministry is inviting members of the community to join in a formal sponsorship of a refugee family. Formal sponsorship means a commitment by at least a dozen or so members of the community, for everything from picking people up at the airport to setting up an apartment to registering for school and ESL classes to just being friendly. Save the Date: We’re planning two evening meetings for information and discernment on April 5 and April 26.

Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl
Driven by a Dream
Malnutrition is widespread in Rwanda, but Gloriose and her husband are doing everything they can to keep their children healthy and set them up for success. From learning to grow a kitchen garden to participating in a micro-savings group, Gloriose and Karekezi know it takes many resources to help their children thrive. How have you helped others access what they need this Lent? Visit crsricebowl.org to learn more and try out the Agatogo with Collard Greens meatless recipe from Rwanda this Friday!
Meatless Meal Kits and Cooking Class
Support Rice Bowl and the work of Catholic Relief Services worldwide!
Order a meatless meal kit and join us for a virtual Rice Bowl cooking class on Friday, April 8 from 5:30-6:30pm. The kits (similar to Blue Apron or Hello Fresh) will include the ingredients you need to make the Rwanda Rice Bowl recipe and will be available for pickup at the Pastoral Center (delivery available) the week of April 4th for a suggested donation of $20. We’ll cook together, learn more about Catholic Relief Services, and see how your Rice Bowl donations change lives around the world! To order a kit and/or RSVP for the presentation, contact Jennifer by Monday Mar 27 and Apr 4, respectively.
