Dear OLG Families,
Wow! This Aladdin Kids production is incredible! I hope you're able to make the show tonight (7pm) as these 8th graders have really created something special together with Nikki W, Natalie T. and along with our fabulous staff team of Savio, Santos, and supporting cast!
As we look to the future of OLG an update on staff movements for next school year:
-
Student Learning Support will expand to a full-time position with Rita Gazewood taking the lead on not just math interventions and support, but also coordinating all the other work we do with SPS, Sound Partners, and linking in reading and writing supports to help me . We will be posting a 1st grade position opening.
-
2nd Grade will have a new face, but not a new staff, as Joanne Simpson is excited to bring her full gifts and talents back into the full-time classroom.
-
3rd Grade will get to loop up and enjoy the full time leadership of Rachel Hoch in their journey and growth.
-
Vice Principal (announced last week) will grow from Janet McClelland's great experience with our community as she continues in her role as Early Learning Director, adding on support for administrative duties for upstairs as well.
We are working to refine these new positions and help a smooth transition into our roles as we look to next year.
As we also look to enrolllment, our PreS/PreK and Grade 5 are waitlisted. There is limited availability in grades K-8. If you know some families that may be interested, they can call the school office (206) 935-0651 for details and application!
We look forward to tonights musical, and next Thursday's "Soup Supper" as gathering points for all of us in our community!
Read on for more details and last chances at the Parish Synod Process...

A Day of Service Thank you!
|
|
Thank you to the 186 volunteers who signed up for our 9th Annual Day of Service. We served at 11 different sites in the region and also contributed donations to 9 additional organizations, including 20 lunches for AIDNW, 400 sandwiches for Operation Nightwatch, 11 Rice Bowl meal kits, 21 Welcome baskets for Mary’s Place, and 38 care bags for our homebound parishioners! We especially thank David Lindholm/Boar’s Head and Leschi Market for their generous donations of meats and cheeses that helped make our sandwiches possible. We appreciate everything everyone did to make this day possible, including our incredible volunteer leadership team: Karen, Jennifer, Colette, Marlo, Catherine, and Molly! Save the Date for the 2023 Day of Service coming up on March 25!

Hello OLG Families!
April is National Child Abuse Prevention month and as hard as this topic can be, open, honest, and on-going communication around child abuse prevention and awareness is key to keeping our youth safe. Talking with kids about consent and body autonomy, the difference between secrets and surprises, and establishing a ring of safe adults to confide in, can go a long way to preventing child abuse. The majority of victims are abused by someone they know well, so adults who know the signs and symptoms of abuse and grooming behavior, and are diligent in watching for those signs, is equally important.
Luckily, there are many resources available that provide age-appropriate conversations guides, videos, and activities to guide us in educating ourselves and our kids. Here are a few of my favorites:
-
At Fight!ChildAbuse.org kids can watch grade-specific, engaging videos and activities that teach safety rules and how to get help. There is also a new virtual series featuring celebrity guests.
-
The Committee for Children’s Hot Chocolate Talk provides free conversation guides broken down by your child’s age, as well as videos on navigating the conversation as an adult, signs of abuse, abuser behavior, and why victims don’t tell.
-
The Mamma Bear Effect provides Rock The Talk to help adults navigate conversations about sexual abuse in age-appropriate ways, as well as activity sheets for kids and a list of book recommendations.
