Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

It's May, which means First Friday = OLG Spirit Day. This first Friday of May was our jog-a-thon day (rescheduled to Sept), but we're finding new ways to stay safe while continuing to share in community together. This upcoming week we have three events: a special Cinco de Mayo (5/5 @ 4pm) teacher appreciation parade, and on Friday (5/8) is both a virtual Field Day and a Live Stream @ 2pm of our Salmon release!

These fun events are meant to be enjoyed as a family and shared together with our whole community. Additionally, we continue to live stream Masses as a parish. Coming May 21st is our next "All School Mass" which we'll have special participants in.

As we're looking ahead, I also wanted to give you an update on grading, report cards, and finishing out this year strong. Trimester 2 report cards are in the mail, delayed for multiple reasons including issues with Powerschool. Thank you for your patience.

Know that for Trimester 3 we follow the philosophy of " Do No Harm" while at the same time acknowledging our teachers and students' hard work maintaining academic progress. In consideration of state guidelines and in coordination with our Archdiocesan peers, our PS-3rd grade classes will have final T3 report cards that are more narrative in nature, while our 4th-8th grades continue to be graded in the traditional grading system, receiving full report cards with Covid modifications. Read more details in this letter. All year-long grades are inclusive of the whole school year and recognize the impact COVID-19 has had on our academic progress.

Looking at the future also requires us to look at impacts from state and federal laws. One important change our state legislature has passed recently is around sexual education. Please read this letter of Support for Referendum 90 Letter from WA bishops. Given the current stay at home orders, and rules for social distancing, we are connecting registered voters with the following option to support Ref 90.
Parents for Safe Schools is part a a Coalition supported by Washington State Catholic Conference, that is, our WA bishops.

Thank you for your reading of the "heavy stuff" as well as enjoying more of the "light", the events around our community. I hope to see you and your family in the car parade next week! If you aren't able to make the parade, keep in touch through facebook and all our other tools of communication.
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

We’re excited to announce that our school community will be participating in the OPEN National Field Day event on  Friday, May 8 th ! All #NationalFieldDay events are designed to be done indoors or outdoors using common household items.

  Here’s how it will work:

  • Our school is now registered as a participant in this event. Families can choose to register as well, but it’s not a requirement
  • Choices and suggestions for events are posted on the P.E. web page (Lessons April 20th – May 1st).
  • Your family will be asked to choose a minimum of 4 events to complete on Field Day. However, you may complete as many events as you’d like.
  • From May 3 thru 7, you can follow #NationalFieldDay and watch the Field Day Torch travel across the country in preparation for the main event.
  • On May 8, our entire school will participate in events, share photos and videos, and participate nationally on social media using #NationalFieldDay if you choose.

We are hopeful that your entire family will use it as a fun and meaningful way to be physically active together and with our entire school community. More information

OLG Parish News
Thank you for your feedback about our efforts to live stream Sunday masses in the church. We are aware that there are some challenges with the quality of the streaming, especially in terms of the sound. We are exploring ways to make it better, including the installation of better equipment in the church. However, we also want to be mindful of our parish budget. If you would like to support this effort, please contact Michelle Scheving , our Parish Administrator 206-935-0358
Celebrate 50 th  Anniversary of Earth Day Throughout the Year
During this pandemic, the use of water has increased significantly especially because of handwashing. Water conservation helps prevent water pollution in nearby lakes, rivers, and local watersheds. Conserving water also prevents greenhouse gas emissions associated with treating and distributing water. So… Please turn off the water  while you are singing “Happy Birthday” twice. (Did you know you that praying the Hail Mary also provides enough time to kill the germs?)

Youth Migrant Project is on!
The Youth Migrant Project summer mission trip for teens (graduating 8 th graders through graduating seniors) is moving ahead! We will be accepting applications and preparing for a week of service in the Skagit Valley from August 10-14. This program, in its 5 th year at OLG, gives youth a chance to learn about migrant life by visiting the camps, working in the fields, and distributing food through the Tri-Parish Food Bank. We will join with youth from St. Anne, St. James and St. George. We will continue to monitor updated health advice as we proceed. Even if the regular program isn’t possible in its entirety, we hope to do something to assist the essential farmworkers and their families as they labor to put food on our tables! Applications are due by Sunday, May 31. Email Jennifer for more information.
