Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

We are moving forward together on our journey... through Lent, through this COVID-19 experience, through it all! I hope you've noticed our facebook and webpages getting a lot more frequent updating. We've certainly seen a lot more traffic both on the school and parish sites ( over 1,000 views of last Sunday's Mass!!!) We are so happy to be partnering with you on this journey. Many changes and updates to come as we move into the next phase after Spring Break. Teachers are upping their game, learning new tricks... families back in routines and raring to go... what we have to look forward to!

I know that we all are in different places, some more capable than others to help in these unusual times. We know this especially as we move forward in the re-enrollment for next year with registration fees popping into FACTs and tuition still due. As we state each year in our State of the School, approximately 80% of our school income is tuition & fees, and that same amount (80%) goes out directly to our teachers and staff in salary & benefits. We are aware that we are not all able to meet our commitments in the same way as we might have in the past. We are committed to continuing to support our teachers and staff in the work they are continuing to do. We are also committed to help our families in many ways due to the support we receive through the parish and generous donors; see more here for requests for COVID-19 Tuition needs.

This next week we hope to all enjoy a much needed break from screens and assignments. I hope you can take advantage of the beautiful weather (even if it is only in your own backyard). I pray for each and every one of you this Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter.

Even though we can not be together this year...we have gathered some soup reciepes for you to have your own Soup Supper! We are together in spirit!
Over 20 recipes in here! As a staff we really seem to love our chicken tortilla and lentils! Tasty!

The 7th grade class and Ms Hobbs traditionally do a "Living" Stations of the Cross for Good Friday. Since we are unable to be together on Good Friday when we would normally share the stations as a school, the students recorded their parts to share in the journey.

Using the Maryknoll (what our 7th grade religion program and curriculum is connected with) African Stations of the Cross, Ms Hobbs put together the following video! Thank you 7th Graders and Ms Hobbs. Holy Week may look different but we are OLG family and Many Parts are still ONE Body !

From the Development Office
We were fortunate enough to hold our annual auction before our Shelter in place order was given. Thank you to all who attended and supported!

It has been interesting times as I have been meeting weekly with our Catholic Schools Development community. It is truly inspiring to see we are all one community, coming together to help each other brainstorm and resource for cancelled events or learning to move them virtually!

As we finish out the school year at home, we know the impact on our families and community is both financial as well as emotional! We miss being together in the school setting. In this season, the final months of the year will look different. Our events will carry new meaning each and every one... now and into next school year!

The eight grade class, with the help of Ms. Hobbs, have been working on projects to help share more to the community about OLG. This is one of the videos. It really embodies what our students leave with at the end of their OLG journey. Coming together during this time to help each other, to support each other, and make sure we all can continue to share as OLG family is nothing new to us! Enjoy this video, share with others, and watch our Facebook for more to come!

Our School Fund Drive also helps our community support our school beyond tuition. These days it is even more essential as we move resources to our families in need, and our staff and teachers at home, to be able to continue to educate our students. In the next short time we will strive to reach an immediate goal of $20,000 to help with tuition assistance , community needs , and virtual school resources that arise. We know not everyone is in a place to give at this time.

If you are able to partner with us to reach out together as Many Parts to our ONE Body, let us come together as family. You can make a donation here: School Fund Drive

Strength for the Journey
Dear OLG Families,

In recent weeks I’ve been in contact with many of you via email, FaceTime, and
speaking on the phone. Through these messages and chats you’ve shared the day to
day ups and downs, your greatest challenges and fears, along with the strength and
hope that carry you on.

Looking at my last 3 newsletter articles… clearly our journey continues to change. In
them I noted that safety guidelines were evolving. I passed along suggestions for
finding routine and balance while doing schoolwork and jobs from home. I shared
an article intended to shift our focus away for a bit from the harsh realities of this
pandemic. Now with the latest announcement from the Governor that our schools
will be closed through the end of the school year, our journey shifts yet again.
A friend of mine recently said, “It’s as if we were just doing our normal thing, then
came a SLAP in the face, and now here we are with a virus.” It does seem to have
been just that fast.... Continue Reading

It was good to gather together as the PO representatives met virtually this week. Please make sure you are checking your email and class Facebook pages for more information from your class representatives.

Here are some notes from our "zoom" meeting this week:
  • Pizza Friday money - Please email Kelsey to let her know if you want a refund for unused Pizza money or if you would like to convert it to a donation to OLG.
  • Jogathon has been moved to September 25th! More information soon
  • Mark your calendar for May PO Virtual meeting - MANY exciting things you won't want to miss! (May 12th 6:30pm). All are welcome! We will be planning and talking about many events, looking forward to next year and being back together!

Reminder on 2019-2020 Commitment Hours
Recognizing the current hardships and all the volunteer hours we as a community have invested already, and the fact that we are all now putting in many hours supporting our children's education in a different way (from home), it seems the right thing - and the Christian thing - to waive outstanding volunteer commitment hours for the remainder of this school year . It is our hope that the OLG spirit of community service and educational support will continue when we are once again able to volunteer in person more regularly.

Help from home by posting to our OLG Facebook page!
Comment on posts and share stories with others

Thank you to Marnie and Paul for your diligent work compiling and reporting commitment hours !

Safe Parking Update
Our Safe Parking program is now fully up and running with our max of three guests each night! We will limit the program to these three spots for the time being. It is exciting to see this moving forward when so much else has necessarily been canceled! Thank you for your support. If you are interested in volunteering with this program, contact Jennifer
Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl:
Do This in Memory of Me
This Holy Week we celebrate the gift of the Eucharist as our heavenly food. We continue to reflect on the challenge of global hunger. How does our faith inspire us to share the gifts that God has bestowed on us? This Holy Thursday, instead of turning-in change collected in your Rice Bowl at home, please use those small bills and quarters as a family math lesson, add them up and donate the total online (or to drop a check off at the OLG Pastoral Cente r made out to “OLG” with “Rice Bowl” in the memo (mail slot to the left of the doors). You can donate online and enter the amount in the “Rice Bowl” field.  Or, give directly at www.crsricebowl.org

Thank you for your continued support of Catholic Relief Services as they respond to COVID-19 in 114 countries. Remember, 25% of Rice Bowl donations also stay local to help with hunger alleviation in our own communities!  Also on the Rice Bowl website , are some excellent resources for Holy Week, including a virtual Stations of the Cross.
