Leadership Team Updates

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

Welcome to Holy Week! This week, the three holiest days of the year happen. Please see our graphic for the schedule of events at church this week. We also hope you will make plans to join us for Living Stations of the Cross tomorrow, Tuesday, April 15 and also on Wednesday, April 16. This is a very special St. Alphonsus tradition! More details about this event can be found below.

In other important news this week, the 2025-2026 school budget has been finalized, and you can see our 2025-2026 tuition rates in the updated tuition policy here. We have raised tuition slightly to try to assist with more of our students' educational needs. Ms. Parey is happy to answer any questions you may have--please email her at tparey@st-alphonsus.orgPlease know that there will be tuition assistance available to you as we move into the new school year. We look forward to an amazing school year as your child continues to grow in God's love and the academic journey! Thank you for your prayers and trust in St. Alphonsus School staff and leadership.

This weekend, some of our middle schoolers participated in an amazing service project called Box City. We are so proud of them! You can read all about it and see pictures from this awesome event below.

Speaking of awesome, the Kids Heart Challenge is back again this year! You may remember this as "Jump Rope For Heart" from when you were a kid. The program has been reimagined and we had a lot of fun doing it last year, so it is back again! Our kickoff is April 22--please see more information below about how to register your student.

The Parish Auction is coming up quickly! If you have never considered joining us for this fun event, please do. We would love to have more school families attend! Note that early bird pricing for registration ends tomorrow. In addition, we also need student volunteers for this event. This is a great way for kids to get service hours--students in grades 4-8 can volunteer. They can sign up at this link, and you can see more information about the Parish Auction at the bottom of this newsletter.

St. Alphonsus Track & Field will be hosting the St. Alphonsus Invitational at Greendale High School on Saturday, April 26! This is a fun and IMPRESSIVE event for St. Alphonsus to host, given the size of our school. Please consider volunteering to help us make the event a success. Find more details and a link to volunteer below in the Athletics section. Please also be sure you read the exciting announcement from our Athletic Director, Nick Warrichaiet regarding a new Arch policy for Athletics next year (hint: if you have a student going into 4th grade next year, you're going to want to read it!).

Lastly, we wish you all a blessed Easter holiday and a short break this week. Remember that Holy Thursday is 11:30am Dismissal (no Cougar Club), and there is no school on Good Friday or Easter Monday. As such, there will NOT be a school newsletter next week.

Have a great week!

Best regards,

Ms. Parey, Principal

Mrs. Schermetzler & Mrs. Bruhn, Leadership Team

Box City Service Project Recap

This past weekend our Middle Schoolers had the opportunity to participate in a very special service project called Box City!

Students spent the night in the courtyard sleeping in box structures they crafted themselves and participating in a variety of team building and learning challenges & events to experience some of what it is like to be unhoused. They were raising money for the Sojourner Family Peace Center, which is the largest nonprofit provider of domestic violence prevention and intervention services in Wisconsin, serving nearly 10,000 clients each year. Established in 1975, Sojourner provides an array of support aimed at helping families affected by domestic violence achieve safety, justice and well-being. After spending the night in the courtyard, students attended Palm Sunday Mass and some of our students also participated as student lectors.

Together this group raised over $700, and donations are still being accepted. The collection at the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper will also benefit Sojourner.

We are so proud of the students who participated! Thank you to Ms. Jaeckels for bringing this project to us and making it happen; and thank you also to all of the parents & volunteers who helped either by donating boxes, chaperoning, or sending a donation in! It was a very impactful event and we hope to do it again next year.

Battle of the Books Tournament

On April 9th, St. Alphonsus School hosted ten other schools for the regional Battle of the Books Tournament!

Battle of the Books is a lively academic competition that improves reading comprehension, builds vocabulary, introduces students to new books & authors, and teaches teamwork, commitment, & sportsmanship. The program culminates in a tournament in April with other area Catholic Schools. It required a lot of planning and set-up, but it was a blast! Over 150 people attended from schools all over the Milwaukee Archdiocese.

St. Alphonsus was represented in the tournament by teams from our 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. All of our teams worked very hard to read 45 books (15 books per student) throughout the fall and winter months. Titles are from varying genres with a wide range of reading levels and subjects. Teams had to answer trivia questions about the books and memorize book titles and their corresponding authors.

We are very proud to say that our 6th grade team took 3rd place in the tournament! We are so proud of our students! We are also very grateful for our parent and student volunteers for their help with this special event--we received numerous comments about how helpful everyone was. And a special thank you to St. Alphonsus Athletics for hosting the tournament concessions!

Cougar Athletics News

Exciting Updates to the Athletic Department!

Dear St. Alphonsus Community,

We are excited to share some significant changes the Archdiocese has approved regarding athletics programs. Starting next school year, 4th grade students will be eligible to participate in all athletics we offer!

Additionally, they have officially made Cross Country a sport offering. We are looking into offering this exciting new opportunity, but we need to find a coach who is willing to help. If you or anyone you know would be interested, please reach out directly to me. If we are not able to identify a coach, we will not be offering it this fall and will look to offer it in the coming years.

These changes open wonderful opportunities for our younger students to engage in sports, develop their skills, and foster a love for athletics from an early age. We believe this will enhance their overall school experience and contribute positively to their growth and development.

We will be looking to open our athletics sign-ups in the coming weeks for the 2025/2026 school year, so if you have students currently in 3rd through 7th grades please be on the lookout for the sign-up announcement!

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for our athletics program.

Cheers!

Nick Warrichaiet

Help us Host the St. Alphonsus Track Invitational!

St. Alphonsus Track & Field is once again hosting the St. Alphonsus Invitational at Greendale High School on Saturday, April 26!

Why do we host? Well, there still are not many schools that are willing to host a track meet, and we can make a little money doing it! Also, we like to show the big schools that our little school can take on hugeness of a track meet, and be successful!

St. Alphonsus will need your help! It takes a lot of volunteers to run a relatively smooth track meet. Our team is small...really too small to host, but there aren't too many schools willing to do it. So in addition to our track families, we get help from our community members and alumni.

Helping at the track meet is a really fun way to spend a Saturday, and you will be amazed at the sportsmanship amongst the teams and athletes. It really does warm your heart to see.

Please consider volunteering for this event, which is a real feather in the cap for St. Alphonsus. You can sign up here.

The Cougar Athletics Store has some new gear!

That's right, you can now get TRACK gear in addition to Basketball stuff, and soon you will also be able to order ahead for Volleyball in the Fall! Anything you see in the store can have either the track or basketball logos on it. Use the drop downs to select your sport!

Check out the web store here.

In addition to registration being open, this year we are also selling raffle calendars! $25 each and only 750 sold. Many chances to win, so check out all the details below and stop by the parish auction table in the gathering space to pick one up.

Thank you for your support of this year's auction!

Student Volunteers Needed for the Parish Auction!

This is a great way for kids to get service hours, saves St. Al’s the money we’d otherwise have to pay for adult waitstaff, and is a lot of fun!

Students should arrive at 4:30 and will be done between 9:30 and 10:00. Students will assist with table and other set up. They will serve appetizers to guests during cocktail hour. After that, they will work in the dining room, clearing salad plates, serving entrees, bringing coffee carafes to the tables and clearing plates, glasses, silverware, etc. at the end of the meal.

We will feed students dinner shortly after arrival. Students should wear a plain, white shirt or blouse and black pants or skirt with comfortable, closed toe shoes.

Students in grades 4-8 are eligible to serve. High schoolers are also welcome. Sign up here!

Vacation Bible School is Back!

This summer, we are again putting on a Vacation Bible School, in conjunction with St. Martin of Tours! The Archdiocese was unable to get a team together to do Totus Tuus as they did last year (due to staffing changes), so we decided to put on our own!

It will be a morning of adventure, learning and fun!

However, in order to make this happen, we need to have volunteers! If you are able to help us, we'd love to have you! All volunteers need to be safeguarded. Please sign up at this link.
