Family Groups prepare for OLG Feast Day
Students create cards for OLG Feast Day
Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

Happy Second Week of Advent, when we've lit the candle of PEACE! With a full moon today, plus a fine OLG Feast Day Mass for the whole school, we hope you find peace as we round out our week that at times have not-so-peaceful moments. HOPE, PEACE, JOY, and LOVE: we focus weekly on one of these four during our Advent preparations. Many more resources for your family also live here on the parish site: https://www.olgseattle.org/celebrating-the-advent-season

As we continue in the theme of peace this week, I've heard several misconceptions regarding a parish initiative that you may or may not have heard about yet, that of the Safe Parking plans that are beginning to take shape. Some families have heard at recent weekend Masses and in the parish bulletin, facebook, and this newsletter of this program. As news unfolds I'm working to share that with all school families as well. I wanted to reassure school families that I have been involved in planning stages from the get go. There are restricted hours for participants to be allowed on campus, they must have background checks, monitoring by staff, and follow a code of conduct. Many of these details have come together, but we do not have a set start date yet. We do know we will start with only two or three participants to begin. This parish has a long history of working with folks in need, and as a parent myself I know we must balance the safety of our children with the willingness to serve those who are living on the margins. The Safe Parking program has a dinner & information night on Dec 18th that all are invited to. If you are unable to attend that night, you can read some basic information here and I welcome your continued thoughts and prayers for all those working on this project!

Speaking of need, our Saint Vincent dePaul Dollar & Item drive is well under way. With a shorter advent timeline than usual, we'll need to step on the accelerator a little. Our first "count of the sleigh" took place with our student council counting out our first report of over 500 items and dollars are in. Last year we ended Advent with 2500 items, so with only one week to go we'll need to pick-up-the pace if we want to beat that number!

Finally, I thought I'd take a moment to share a moment in school today. During Mass, we received a beautiful basket of hand-made rosaries from Fr. Kevin's old parish, Mary Queen of Peace, one for every child in the school and parish. Fr. Kevin blessed these at Mass, and at the end of today as these were distributed for students to take home, one child turned to me and said, "Mr. Kramer, this is what Mary taught us with the story of Juan Diego... that even the smallest of us can give to others."
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.      -Hebrews 13:2
Ever since WHEEL Women’s Shelter closed at OLG, we have been hoping to find another way to provide shelter on our campus. We are excited to announce we are making plans to partner with Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle to host several overnight Safe Parking spots in our gravel lot. This will continue our tradition of offering shelter to those in need in our community, just in time for colder weather! Please join us for dinner on Wednesday, Dec 18 at 6:00pm in the School Hall to learn more about this program.

Loop the 'Lupe Needs You!
We're less than six months away from Loop the 'Lupe, the obstacle course 5K fundraiser OLG holds each summer. The date of the upcoming event is Saturday, June 6th, 2020. "The Loop" raised more than $12,000 in 2019 to go towards maintenance costs for the Walmesley Center, but to continue our success, we need a lot of volunteers! Please join us for a brief meeting in the narthex of the church after all the Masses on Dec 14 and 15 . Holiday snacks will be provided, and we'll keep it short! Contact Brian Callanan  or call 206-459-4292 to learn more.
Caring for God's Creation
A recent survey found that 40% of all online clothing purchases are returned, and those returns have a large environmental cost. Even though buying clothes online can be convenient, the environmental cost exists on the highways of the world, where trucks shuttle the goods to and from our houses, polluting the atmosphere and contributing to global warming. Three ways to reduce these impacts are: (1) know your size; (2) group your packages; and (3) buy fewer clothes!
