Mrs. Sagat Says...

Happy Monday!

Today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and we celebrated Mass together as a school right away this morning. It was a really nice way to start our week--one which we hope will be a little less hectic than last week! We had so many wonderful events happening last week, many of which you can find more details about below! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the beautiful Christmas concert put on by 5K through 3rd Grades last week. It was a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit! And thank you also to our band and orchestra students for performing. It was lovely to see so many students sharing their talents with us.

Report Cards were released in PowerSchool on Friday afternoon. You can find information about how to access these for your students below, as well as a little bit of background information about standards-based grading.

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the Cookie Walk! From making cookies to all of the amazing volunteers, it was a very successful event and we could not have done it without you. You can find a few pictures from the Cookie Walk below.

Have a great week!

Report Card Access

Report Cards Were Released for Viewing on Friday.

To access, please follow the below steps.

  • Click on Grades & Attendance on the left hand side.

  • Select the Standards Grades tab on this screen.

  • Click each Course on this window and the Standards grades should open up. You can also select Expand All in the upper right hand corner to expand all courses at once.

Per the Milwaukee Archdiocese, we use a Standards-Based Grading method here at St. Alphonsus School. Here are what the standards mean:

  • 1: This really only applies to students who demonstrate no knowledge of the standard. The student may be able to complete an assignment but only with assistance.
  • 2: The student isn't at mastery level but is learning the needed vocabulary and learning targets shown in the scoring guide. They stay at this level until they have shown full mastery of the standard being assessed. The student shows a partial understanding and is able to complete an assignment without assistance.
  • 3: The student has shown proficiency on the standard. Students may need more than one opportunity to demonstrate mastery of a standard. The student's understanding is demonstrated consistently and work is completed independently.
  • 4: The student has shown and applied the knowledge beyond what is expected at a given grade level. The student independently completes self-directed studies. It is high on Bloom's taxonomy level, beyond what has been taught in the classroom, something most students don't obtain, and is usually due to a combination of high ability, high interest, and/or high background knowledge.

If you have questions about how to access report cards, please email Mrs. Schermetzler. If you have questions about your student's grades, please email their homeroom teacher directly.

December Virtue: Gratitude

December's Virtue is Gratitude!

Today we as a school celebrated with parisihioners at the 8am Mass for the Feast of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was a beautiful Mass and so nice to worship with more parishioners than usual!

How does the Immaculate Conception relate to gratitude? During this Mass, we celebrate God's immense grace in preserving Mary from sin, which in turn inspires us to thank God for His plan of salvation. The messages in today's gospel remind us to respond to His gifts with Mary's own humility, purity, and complete trust, making it a call to live lives of grace and thankfulness. Mary said yes, and today is a day to thank God for Mary not only saying yes, but also being a model of how to live a life dedicated to God's will.

Next week, we will again display our gratitude and generosity by hosting our annual Christmas Spirit Day, which will benefit the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is serving more clients than ever before and this is an easy way for us a school to support them. You can find details about Christmas Spirit Day below!

Staff Wishlists and Favorites Now Available!

Are you looking for a unique way to gift your teachers & staff this holiday season? Why not buy them something off their wishlists or their favorites list?

Home & School asked teachers & staff to fill out a form listing their favorites--colors, foods, stores, etc.

You can find these Staff Favorites on our school website year-round, on the Home & School Page here.

Look on the right hand side of the page for the section that reads Staff Favorites.

In addition, we also had teachers make a wishlist of items they'd love to have in their classrooms or as gifts for themselves. You can check these wishlists out below. Don't see your child's teacher? Encourage them to make one! We will continue to share these throughout the month of December, and will add new ones as they are created. St. Al's Women's Group Hosts Family Friendly Event!

The St. Al’s Women’s Group is hosting a family friendly celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas and the New Evangelization!

Want to learn more? Join us for a whole parish, family friendly event in the Community Room from 5:30-7p.m. on Friday, December 12th. We will pray, learn about the apparition, kids will be able to create a craft, and adults can gather in fellowship. If you are able, we'd love to share snacks. We will have a pizza arrive during our time together. If you would like to help defray the cost of the pizza, donations are welcome!

Volunteer Opporunity at Kinship Community Center

Want to see how people of faith transform the world? Then join Karen Farrell and come to the Kinship Community Food Center! It is a place where lives truly are transformed. This food center is able to do something a lot of food centers are just not equipped to do - and that is to help provide pathways out of poverty. This helps to end the cycle within many inner-city communities.

And... this has all grown out of the Catholic Church and her desire to serve those on the margins. This is a place where faith is made real!

This opportunity is one for the whole family. Kids ages 4 and up are recommended (volunteering time is about 3 hours long).

We have two dates:

Saturday, January 24, 2026

Saturday, March 21, 2026

While there, volunteers help shoppers with grocery selection, carrying bags, with hospitality and in other various ways.

Check out the Sign-Up here!
