Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

Thank you one and all for your flexibility around all the wintery weather of recent weeks. We've returned to our normal energy around school and it's truly been wonderful to see students and staff immediately re-engage in great education (with a few makeup Valentine parties). As a parent myself I was certainly ready for a return to normal schedules! Speaking of schedules, many have asked about snow make-up and affects on calendar. We have always maintained more-than-minimum instructional hours (as per state code) and are not required by law to add-back in any days. But, we do know that our school's instructional goals go beyond the state minimum and therefore we are adding one day back into our class schedules:

Friday, March 15th (originally set aside for a regional inservice day)
is now a full , regular school day for all grades.

Auction is rolling and I know you've seen lots of communication from the parent org. Last day for online tickets/reserved seating/etc is Tuesday, Feb. 26th! Tickets are going fast, so get yours today, and we're going to have a great time!

As you think of your wonderful teachers around this time of curriculum shifts, auctions, and all else, please share with us your thoughts on which of our fabulous teachers and staff you would like to nominate for the OLG Distinguished Educator Award! This annual award recognizes one teacher or staff member for excellence in education here at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Your nominations are a great opportunity to recognize an individual who stands out in your child’s life and makes a significant positive difference through his or her educational ministry. The award recipient receives a stipend for summer travel and professional development, pledging to return and share the experience with their classroom and school.

Anyone may nominate a teacher or staff member. Nominations are accepted online ( here) and deadline for nominations is by our State of the School meeting on March 13th, so don’t delay!

Lent begins on March 6th. There are three Ash Wednesday services offered that day (including the 9am all-school service). During the season of Lent and this time of transition, you are invited to participate in a six-week series entitled RSVP: "Ritual, Scripture, Verse, and Prayer" The series is designed for all parents, parishioners, staff... to build closer relationships in our community while fostering a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through Scripture. More details here !
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

Math-Whizz Pilot is happening at OLG!
Students in K-4 have begun the pilot with an individualized online assessment which will guide the lessons they will receive in tutor mode. For optimum results we need your support in having your student log on at home. They will spend time at school as well! This program aligns with our Math In Focus curriculum, and will enable us to provide more support and enrichment for our range of math learners. Your student has been given a letter and log on information to use at home. It is also posted on my webpage Please let me know if you have any questions.

Exploring our Collective Memory: An Invitation to Reflect on US Immigration
OLG Immigrant Ministry is excited to host Professor Catherine Punsalan-Manlimos, PhD from the Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture at Seattle University on Thursday, February 28 at 7pm in the School Hall.   Reflecting on the history of U.S. immigration in light of Catholic Social Traditions can remind us why fighting for policies that honor the dignity of our migrant brothers and sisters is a matter of faith and a matter of justice. Suggested donation $5.

Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love – A Pastoral Letter Against Racism
“Although our nation has moved forward in a number of ways against racial discrimination, we have lost ground in others. Despite significant progress in civil law with regard to racism, societal realities indicate a need for further catechesis to facilitate conversion of hearts. Too many good and faithful Catholics remain unaware of the connection between institutional racism and the continued erosion of the sanctity of life. We are not finished with the work.”   - Open Wide Our Hearts 9-10
Every February, we celebrate Black History Month. This month, as part of your observance, consider reading the U.S. Catholic Bishops new pastoral letter against racism entitled “Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love”.
