Thank you to our 8th graders for MLK presentations to their family group.
Students had a chance to share their dreams.
Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

This week our student leaders honored MLK and taught us all in Family Group zooms on Wednesday, Jan 13th and with our first All School Mass of the new year the follwoing day! At the end of this month is a special week for Catholic Schools and a special week for our students as we are moving closer and closer to return to fully in-person classes for those who are able. Our Open House will be all virtual this year on Sunday, Jan 31st. Sunday Mass will be livestreamed at 10am with special school involvement, and will be followed by Zoom/multimedia event for prospective families at 1pm. Looks for more ways to share the good news through Facebook, WestSeattle Blog, Parent Org, and our school newsletter in the days to come.

Many more details are below on Catholic Schools Week and an entire separate Auction email is coming to you this evening! Enjoy the three day weekend and I will have more news on Tuesday evening regarding our classes returning to in-person learning.
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

PICK UP YOUR AUCTION GOODY BAG -- NOW IN YOUR CHILD'S BOX!
2021 Annual OLG Auction- Registration starts Friday!

Register Friday!

Early registration for OLG's first VIRTUAL Auction opens Friday ahead of the launch of our two Silent Auctions on Feb. 22 and our Live event on March 6. While bidding is free, we encourage you to make a night of it via our Red Carpet Zoom event and fun food and drink add-ons. Look for registration instructions in an Auction-specific e-mail coming Friday, in your Auction goodie bags available at pickup, and/or in next week's newsletter.

Featured Auction Item: Huskies vs. Cougars
We’re kicking off our live event with a very special competition: two themed baskets will be auctioned – one filled with University of Washington goodness, the other with Washington State University delights. The winner of the basket that brings in the most money (or their representative) will be invited to raise their preferred school’s flag on the OLG flag post during the 2021 Apple Cup weekend! (A reminder that the flagpole in question is the highest point in the city – time to give your alumni associations a call and bid, bid, bid!)

Fund-a-Need
Old fixtures that don't work, doors that don't lock, dented metal stalls, bubblegum pink/baby blue walls – sound familiar?  We have the opportunity through this year's Auction Fund-a-Need to update the bathrooms our children use every day. The more we raise, the more we can do – imagine being able to surprise our kids in the fall with bright, modern bathrooms on every floor (and fully-locking stalls).

CYO News
4th-8th Grade Volleyball Season Cancelled

Hello Bulldog families,

Unfortunately CYO has cancelled the upcoming 4th-8th grade volleyball season. There are new metrics for allowing various indoor activities, but volleyball is classified as a phase 2 "moderate risk" sport. In addition, many of the restrictions that would allow volleyball to occur in phase 2 could not be feasibly managed at a 4th-8th grade level. In particular, there is a lack of potential gym space as many schools, such as OLG, have converted their gyms into classrooms.

Some good news...CYO is hoping to offer K-3rd grade soccer as well as 4th-8th grade kickball in the Spring (both phase 2 outdoor sports). Phase 2 does not permit competitions of more than 200 people, such as track meets, but CYO is moving to a "virtual track season" model this spring, similar to how we had cross-country in the fall. More information will come on the spring sport offerings as we get closer to those decision dates.

Next Sport Offerings on the Calendar
  • Adult Rocket League Season (February 16 – April 24)
  • K-3rd Grade Soccer (April 17 – June 5)
  • 4th-8th Grade Kickball (Tentatively – May 1 – May 23)
  • Virtual Track Season (Tentatively – May 8 – June 5)
  • 3rd-12th Grade Basketball (Tentatively – June 12 – August 22)
  • Adult Softball (June 8 – August 14)

If you have any questions on the upcoming seasons or the decisions from CYO regarding the cancelled seasons, please feel free to contact us at OLG.cyoathletics@gmail.com
