Dear OLG Families,
Happy New Year and welcome to 2021. As the news of the past few days have been quite unsettling in the nation's capitol, I'm pleased with a very smooth start and solid return to classes this week here at OLG. Our recent third grade transition has been incredibly calm under the helm of our new teacher, Mrs. Thrall. Feel free to join the Parent Org meeting this next Tuesday ( 6pm, click for calendar & link) to meet her "in person."
Speaking of in-person, we continue to revise our in-person return plans for classes in accordance with guidelines of our state officials and the Archdiocese. Updates on particular classes and dates are coming but is too lengthy for this newsletter format. As stated earlier, dates are being set with two weeks notice for families and teachers to prepare. More details are coming in a separate communication.
Our student leaders are hard at work in the next few weeks, with 8th grade leading Family Group zooms on Wednesday, Jan 13th and with our first All School Mass of the new year on Thursday, Jan 14th, both at 9am.
At the end of this month is a special week for Catholic Schools around the entire U.S.A. Our Open House will be all virtual this year on Sunday, Jan 31st. Sunday Mass will be livestreamed at 10am with special school involvement, and will be followed by Zoom/multimedia event for prospective families at 1pm. Looks for more ways to share the good news through Facebook, WestSeattle Blog, Parent Org, and our school newsletter in the days to come.
Final note, today is the final deadline for Fulcrum TAP applications for the 2021-22 school year. Please see below or previous newsletters for more information, or contact the school office if you require assistance.

2021 Annual OLG Auction- Registration starts next week!
Get Ready to Register!
Early registration for OLG's first VIRTUAL Auction opens next week ahead of the launch of our two Silent Auctions on Feb. 22 and our Live event on March 6. While bidding is free, we encourage you to make a night of it via our Red Carpet Zoom event and fun food and drink add-ons. Look for registration instructions in an Auction-specific e-mail coming Friday, in your Auction goodie bags available at pickup, and/or in next week's newsletter.
Featured Auction Item: Huskies vs. Cougars
We’re kicking off our live event with a very special competition: two themed baskets will be auctioned – one filled with University of Washington goodness, the other with Washington State University delights. The winner of the basket that brings in the most money (or their representative) will be invited to raise their preferred school’s flag on the OLG flag post during the 2021 Apple Cup weekend! (A reminder that the flagpole in question is the highest point in the city – time to give your alumni associations a call and bid, bid, bid!)
Fund-a-Need
Old fixtures that don't work, doors that don't lock, dented metal stalls, bubblegum pink/baby blue walls – sound familiar? We have the opportunity through this year's Auction Fund-a-Need to update the bathrooms our children use every day. The more we raise, the more we can do – imagine being able to surprise our kids in the fall with bright, modern bathrooms on every floor (and fully-locking stalls).
glassybaby
Last call for parents, teachers, and all friends of OLG to reserve "Midnight" votives or rockers (rocks glasses) or "Splash" drinkers (stemless wine glasses) – all custom-etched with OLG's official school logo – here. Cost is $100, but you don't pay until Auction night, March 6. Some 40 percent of each purchase goes directly toward our fundraising goal of $125,000.

We Need You in Our Pews — at least your faces!
Who knew that the pandemic would be going on this long and we still have many more months to go. So, if you haven’t already done so, please send us a photo of your household, with names, so we can add it to our pew collection. And then, when we can gather again in person, you can view our “photo gallery” in the vestibule and be reminded of who your fellow parishioners are and what they look like! Email them to Helen or mail to the office.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Racial Justice Discussion for Youth
All 7th-12th graders are invited to an online MLK Day discussion on Racial Justice on Monday, Jan 18 3-4:30pm. Through prayer, music, video, reflection and discussion, we’ll explore the definition of racism, learn tools to become anti-racist, and find ways to advocate for peace, justice, and racial equity. Sign up: register by Wednesday, Jan 13.
2021 Day of Service Planning Meeting
Our Day of Service team is meeting on Monday, Jan 11 4-5pm to continue planning for 2021. While COVID has changed many things, it hasn’t stopped the need in our community. In fact, it’s growing every day and we’re looking for ways to creatively respond. If you want to be part of the effort, join us at our meeting to learn more. There are many ways to be involved, both big and small. For more information, contact Karen
