Leadership Team Updates

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

We hope you have been having a great summer! There's still lots of time left to enjoy the sunnier, longer days and time with your families.

We have been hard at work all summer getting ready for the new school year, so we wanted to send you this quick newsletter with some updates & tips for when it's time for you to get ready for back to school. Please also make plans to stop by the Greendale Farmers Market on Saturday, August 2 and again on Saturday, September 13, as St. Alphonsus School will have a booth! We also had a booth in July and it was great fun to be out in the community talking about our school.

Some quick notes from the Leadership Team specifically:

The school office will reopen for the fall on August 12! The office will then be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9am to 12pm through August 22. Regular daytime office hours resume with the first day of school, Monday, August 25, when the office is open from 7:15am to 3:15pm.

As we mentioned in late June, we are excited to welcome some new teachers to our staff this fall. We are currently interviewing for the recently opened 5th grade position and are excited about the candidates! We will have an update for families soon, and then our new teachers will share their bios & photos with you in early August.

We are also VERY excited to announce that we are welcoming parent volunteers back into our school to assist with lunch and recess duties this year! This is an easy daytime commitment of about an hour, and we would love to be flexible to your schedule! Lunch and recess runs from about 11:30am to 12:30pm. If you are interested in serving as a Lunch/Recess Monitor, please email Mrs. Sagat directly with your name, contact information and availability. All volunteers must be safeguarded--you can find more information about Safeguarding below.

Meet & Greet Night will take place on Thursday, August 21 from 3-5pm. Park in the main church parking lot and enter through the church doors, because the first stop is the Community Room! Here you will take your student's school picture, pick up necessary forms & information, and be able to buy out-of-uniform passes, shop the uniform closet sale, and more! After that, you can head to your child's classroom to drop off supplies and meet the teacher. We look forward to seeing you all there!

We will start to email you more information for the new school year in the beginning of August, but be sure to check out important information about things like unity shirts, school uniforms & school supplies below! In addition, you should always check out our website for the most up-to-date information during the summer.  The "Parents" tab will have the most valuable information for you, but you can also always check our newsletter archive too.

Have a great rest of your summer and we will be back in your inboxes in August!

Best regards,

Mrs. Sagat, Principal

Mrs. Schermetzler & Mrs. Bruhn, Leadership Team

Dress Code / School Store Ordering

Dress Code: Order Your Mass Polos & Gym Uniforms Now!

Here is a link to our School Store. As a reminder, you will find everything from uniform shirts to spiritwear and more here! All the items listed in our school store are uniform-code approved, but we have two important reminders.

First, we will again be wearing embroidered sky blue polos for school Mass this year. ALL students in grades 5K-8 must purchase a Mass polo. You have a couple of different sizing options, but the Mass polo MUST be the sky blue color and will be worn every Wednesday.

Second, for grades 5-8, a gym uniform is also required. Only one gym uniform purchase is required, but students will be required to wear the uniform each time they have gym. You may purchase as many as you'd like for your student to be able to wear the uniform to gym class each time they have it. In addition, the store also offers a cute drawstring bag which many of our students like to use to carry their gym uniforms!

You will find both of these required uniform pieces in the Required section of the school store.

Anything you order from the store between now and July 30 will be available for you to pickup at our Meet & Greet Night on August 21.

Please note that the rest of our dress code is NOT changing. You can continue to order khakis & pants, shirts, etc. in our regular colors. We will have an updated Family Handbook for all families in August, but you can see more about our dress code on our website here!

(P.S. I know no one wants to think about snow, but these tote bags were added to the store specifically for how great they are for toting snow gear! They are big bags that hold boots, snowpants, hats & mittens perfectly!)

Order Your Student's Unity Shirt!

School will provide ONE unity shirt per student, in all grades: 3K through 8th.

Extra unity shirts and unity shirts for family members who are not students can be ordered online via our school store. Please do not use this form to order shirts for yourself or other family members.

This year's unity shirt will be heathered navy and we will wear them every Monday!

Please click this link to give us your child's size for Unity Shirts. Unity shirt sizes must be entered by July 30 so that we may place the bulk order in time for Meet & Greet.

Time to Think About Safeguarding!

If you are new to Catholic Schools or St. Alphonsus: You are REQUIRED to be safeguarded if you would like to volunteer for St. Alphonsus School events or in your child's classrooms, AND if you would like to attend field trips as a chaperones. There are NO exceptions to this rule, so get your Safeguarding requirements done now! This includes grandparents and any other family members who may want to volunteer or help at school, as well.

In addition, as a reminder, all families who want to host a trunk at Trunk or Treat in October are required to be safeguarded. Adults cannot host a trunk if they are not Safeguard-certified, so take care of it now so you are not disappointed!

St. Alphonsus is offering TWO August Safeguarding sessions. They will be here at St. Alphonsus in the Community Room on the following dates:

August 7 at 6:00pm

August 28 at 6:00pm

To register or learn more about the Archdiocese Safeguarding Program, please visit their website here. Registration is available on the left hand side of the page, and instructions are attached here. You can also reach out to Christine Gozdowiak in the parish office for any questions or assistance needed with registering.

Cougar Club Calendars are now available!

Just as a reminder, St. Alphonsus offers Cougar Club at the end of each school day!

Cougar Club is an after school program open to all students in grades 3K-8th. Each day the students will have the opportunity to participate in outdoor playtime, gym time, arts and crafts, toys, games, and reading. They will also have the opportunity to work on their homework. The St. Alphonsus Catholic School Cougar Club is open every school day from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Please note that Cougar Club is closed on Early Release Days and days when St. Alphonsus Catholic School is not in session.

There is no fee to enroll in Cougar Club. Simply return a monthly calendar to Stacey Pagac, our Cougar Club coordinator, at cougarclub@st-alphonsus.org. Cougar Club calendars can be found on our website here, along with more information about the program, including fees.

Fall Extracurricular Opportunities

Please note that where referenced below, "K" refers to 5K. 3K & 4K students are not eligible for these extracurriculars.

Battle of the Books Returns This Fall!

When school resumes in the fall, we will again be inviting students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to participate in Battle of the Books!

Battle of the Books is a lively academic competition that improves reading comprehension, builds vocabulary, introduces students to new books & authors, and teaches teamwork, commitment, & sportsmanship. The program culminates in a tournament in April with other area Catholic Schools. It is a lot of fun!

If your child is interested in joining, they can get a head start by reading a few of the books from this list over the summer. These books will also count toward summer reading programs at area public libraries.

Happy reading!

Mrs. Bruhn & Mrs. Schermetzler

Calling All FUN RUN Sponsors!

Our only fall fundraiser—the Fun Run—will be back this fall! In order to make this Fun Run the best one yet, we need your help getting T-shirt sponsors this summer. There are four levels of sponsorship: $100, $250, $500 and $750. All sponsors receive their logo on the official Fun Run T-shirt and recognition in the weekly school newsletter throughout the fall.

Sponsors can be the company you or a family member works for, or a local business that you frequent. Not sure about making the ask yourself? Send us your ideas and we’ll do the legwork!

Please contact Olivia Hartley with your donations and ideas, and thank you in advance for your support!

Thanks for joining us at the Milwaukee Milkmen game!

St. Alphonsus had a fantastic time at the Milwaukee Milkmen Game! It was great to see everyone and raise a little money for our school through the 50/50 raffle and ball toss.

Thank you to all of our volunteers and helpers who made this night such a success, including Home & School President Tricia Williams and our other amazing volunteers who ran the 50/50 raffle and helped out with the event. Mrs. Sagat was also there to throw out a beautiful first pitch!
