Dear OLG Families,
What a final week of school this year. Much fun was had in our spirit days and adventures, but at the same time we also know there is much pain in our world. It has been tremendous to see the spirit of West Seattle and our Guadalupe families shine bright on the streets and in many blogs, tweets, and posts. As I mentioned last week, our School Commission and I invite your ideas for initiatives that will help us bring forth love and inclusiveness so that everyone feels welcome at OLG. Thank you to the families who have already expressed willingness this past week. Together we can be an example and instrument for positive change here in W.Seattle, and beyond.
I look forward to seeing many of you digitally in our livestream end-of-year mass tomorrow at 9am. We will be celebrating our 7th grade leaders, as well as our departing staff.

here to help spread our selves throughout and maintain social distancing as best we can. Tomorrow is also the last day of the
Parish Survey regarding returning to Mass.

For our return to
school in the Fall, plans are still moving ahead. With the release of the OPSI guidelines earlier today, we are beginning to now have more clarity on our plans:
POSSIBLE SCENARIOS PER ARCHDIOCESE OF SEATTLE
- Students return in-person with social distancing and other protocols following CDC and local health departments guidelines
- Reopen with split or rotating schedules to meet social distancing demands.
- Phased-in, split, or rotating schedules in combination with distance learning.
- Begin with distance learning until permission is given to reopen.
We are positive that together we can create the best learning environment through ingenuity, creativity, and by working in community with each other. A staff and parent collaboration is beginning and will continue to refine these plans.
As we move into summer and look for time away from the books and moving into vacation mode, please consider this
article on easy ways to avoid the summer "loss", along with your summer packets you've picked up from teachers :). We will continue to update you all summer long on progress to keep
#OLGStrong in our Fall plans.
As a final thought as we move into summer time in these times, I end with a quote that spoke to me of the challenges, but also the possibilities ahead:
Social life is made by human beings. The society we live in is the outcome of human choices and decisions. This means that human beings can change things. What humans break, divide, and separate, we can – with God's help – also heal, unite, and restore. What is now does not have to be. Therein lies the hope. And the challenge.

Summer Math and Reading
Parents: We highly encourage you to keep your student on the suggested schedule so they can maintain the skills they have learned this year. Summer packets will be available at
Final Pickup.
Students in these current grades will receive:
- Kindergarten - a packet with math and reading review
- 1st grade - a packet with math and language arts review. Please continue to use your individualized book lists and RAZ to find “just right” text and books! Students are encouraged to read aloud 20 minutes a day.
- 2nd-4th grades - a math packet. Students are encouraged to read 20-30 minutes a day. Kids A-Z reading resources will also be available.
- Grades K-4 - Math Whizz and XtraMath will be available to your students throughout the summer. We recommend that you continue to use these resources! For optimal results, use Math Whizz for 45 minutes a week and XtraMath 3-5 times a week.
- Grades 5-7 Math - A mandatory summer math packet available at Final Pickup. A digital version can also be found on Ms. Savio's website.
- Grades 5-7 Reading - Summer reading assignments will be available in hard copy at Final Pickup and sent via student email, or available on Ms. Hobbs web site.
Students in K-4 who complete and return their packets to next year’s teacher on the first week of school will be eligible to participate in an
ice cream party . If you have any questions please contact
Mrs. Lawler. Middle schoolers (no ice cream party) just tests and a book assignment in September. Have a fun and safe summer!

Safe Parking Update
Our Safe Parking ministry continues, despite the challenges of COVID-19. Our first three guests moved on and two new guests have been staying with us. Volunteers help keep the Hospitality Hut clean and welcoming while St. Vincent de Paul keeps it stocked with food. To volunteer, contact

Dealing with Stress and Anxiety in this Time
Join parishioner and Mental Health Counselor Knox Burnett LMHC on Saturday,
June 13 at 10am for an experiential Facebook Live workshop on how to work with anxiety and stress during this difficult season. The workshop will explore what anxiety is and how we can care for our bodies and minds in constructive and compassionate ways. All are invited, regardless of religious affiliation. OLG is Collecting Masks for Farm Workers
Catholic Community Services is in urgent need of thousands of masks to equip farmworkers as the harvesting seasons begin. We will be collecting homemade and store-bought masks. Visit

for sewing instructions and tutorials. You can drop your donations in the collection bin outside the Pastoral Center on weekdays.
Breakfast Foods Needed
Catholic Community Services (CCS) has been working hard to keep their shelter guests safe during this time of pandemic. In collaboration with our local Scouts, we are running a breakfast food drive. Please consider donating instant oatmeal, dried fruit, fruit cups, individually wrapped pastries, peanut butter, jelly, jerky, and durable fruit (oranges, apples, etc.) by June 21. Contact

Vacation Bible Camp - register by June 30th
Vacation Bible Camp will be virtual for PreK-5th grade. Please notice the new dates July 20-24. School families can make arrangements for continued technology assistance after June 12th. Volunteers needed for Crew Leaders.
