8th Grade graduated this week:

Congratulations to the Class of 2021!
|
|
Dear OLG Families,
Please join with me in congratulating our 8th grade graduates! This week had many events and functions honoring them, including passing the "Light of Leadership" onto the current 7th grade class. Our 8th graders left their mark with us in many ways, even a literal mark of service on our hillside below the playground clearing the way for more natural growth. Thank you 8th grade students and families, and good luck as you move on to your high schools of choice!
Our 8th grade may be moving ahead on their journey, but on the other end of the spectrum, our 1st Grade shares this Cultural Parade with our school!
As we near the end of this school year, notes from your classroom teachers include schedule of returning any loaned devices, yearbooks, heading home, and other end-of year sundries. Any repairs to loaned devices will be reviewed and you'll be contacted by the office; charges applied in FACTS. Families returning next school year, your earthquake kits will be stored this summer. Other "next year" information is below and will continue to be updated on our website.
This afternoon, our students "jumped-up" to meet their next-year's teachers, including our incoming 4th grade teacher, Ms. Fuchs. Read more in her short bio here! We're excited to have Ms. Fuchs joining our OLG community this Fall. She currently has her own class at St. Ben's in Wallingford, but will be reaching out via video to our students to greet our students before the end of the year.
Finally as we round out events of this week, today we also held Student Council elections and I want to welcome our new student leadership team for 2021-22 school year:
-
Kinglsey W., President
-
Gresham C., VP
-
Nathan W., Secretary & Alexa A., Asst. Secretary
-
Matthew N., Publicist & Ella W., Asst. Publicist
- and Representatives:
-
Eyob F, Lead Rep.
- Demarco B.
- Edie R.
- Gianna P.
- Naboni M.
- Nico A.
- Paulo P.
- Rocco A.
- Sam V.
- Tallulah M.
Congrats to our incoming leadership team and to Mr. Casey for running a smooth and uncontroversial election (no recounts needed)! As we return this Fall to full, regular schedule of classes and look to continue to re-open to more normalcy, our student leaders will have their hands full on reimagining and reinventing the wonderful things we do here at OLG!

Summer Math and Reading
Parents: We highly encourage you to keep your student on the suggested schedule so they can maintain the skills they have learned this year. Students in these current grades will receive:
-
Kindergarten - a packet with math and reading review
-
1st grade - a packet with math and language arts review. Please continue to use your individualized book lists and RAZ to find “just right” text and books! Students are encouraged to read aloud 20 minutes a day.
-
2nd-4th grades - a math packet. Students are encouraged to read 20-30 minutes a day. Kids A-Z reading resources will also be available.
-
Grades K-4 - Math Whizz and XtraMath will be available to your students throughout the summer. We recommend that you continue to use these resources! For optimal results, use Math Whizz for 45 minutes a week and XtraMath 3-5 times a week.
-
Grades 5-7 Math - A mandatory summer math packet will be sent home with students the final week of school. A digital version can also be found on Ms. Savio's website.
-
Grades 5-7 Reading - Summer reading assignments will be sent home with students.
Also, check your student's report card for comments and recommendations (report cards will be emailed).
Students in K-4 who complete and return their packets to next year’s teacher on the first week of school will be eligible to participate in an ice cream treat. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Lawler. Middle schoolers (no ice cream party) just tests and a book assignment in September. Have a fun and safe summer!
