Dear St. Alphonsus Families,
Happy St. Patrick's Day! We hope you have the luck of the Irish with you today and every day! Lots of fun stuff happening as we gear up for Spring Break, so please check it out below.
Please make plans to join us tomorrow at the State of the School, taking place at 6:00pm in the Community Room. This is your chance to meet Mrs. Sagat for the first time, so we hope to see you there. Please remember that because we are serving alcohol, children may not attend. More details are listed below.
Report cards were released on Friday! You can find instructions on how to access your child's report card below.
Another reminder that the application period for St. Gerard Scholarships is now open! Families with students in grades 2-8 are eligible to apply, and you could win up to $800 towards your tuition. Find more details about this below.
Monday, March 31 is Opening Day! To celebrate our return from Spring Break, we will be having a Brewers Dress Down Day that day. Wear your favorite Brewers gear or blue & yellow/gold to celebrate the Brewers with us! Another reminder has been added below in the Out of Uniform Day listing--this is where we will always tell you what the Out of Uniform Days are for the month.
This week's pizza lunch on Thursday still needs a few volunteers. Check out the sign-up genius below and remember that there is no hot lunch or milk served on Thursday, March 20 due to this fundraiser.
Obviously, there will be no newsletter next week due to Spring Break. The Leadership Team wishes all of you a relaxing and enjoyable week off! We will see you back in school on March 31!
Best regards,
Ms. Parey, Principal
Mrs. Schermetzler & Mrs. Bruhn, Leadership Team

Report Cards Were Released Friday!
Don't forget that report cards were released last Friday. To check your student's grades, follow these instructions:
- Click on Grades & Attendance on the left hand side.
-
Select the Standards Grades tab on this screen.
- Click each Course on this window and the Standards grades should open up. You can also select Expand All in the upper right hand corner to expand all courses at once.
Per the Milwaukee Archdiocese, we use a Standards-Based Grading method here at St. Alphonsus School. Here are what the standards mean:
-
1: This really only applies to students who demonstrate no knowledge of the standard. The student may be able to complete an assignment but only with assistance.
-
2: The student isn't at mastery level but is learning the needed vocabulary and learning targets shown in the scoring guide. They stay at this level until they have shown full mastery of the standard being assessed. The student shows a partial understanding and is able to complete an assignment without assistance.
-
3: The student has shown proficiency on the standard. Students may need more than one opportunity to demonstrate mastery of a standard. The student's understanding is demonstrated consistently and work is completed independently.
-
4: The student has shown and applied the knowledge beyond what is expected at a given grade level. The student independently completes self-directed studies. It is high on Bloom's taxonomy level, beyond what has been taught in the classroom, something most students don't obtain, and is usually due to a combination of high ability, high interest, and/or high background knowledge.
If you have questions about accessing report cards, please email Mrs. Schermetzler. If you have questions or concerns about your student's standards-based grades, please contact their teacher directly to discuss.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Last week we were lucky enough to enjoy a visit from the Trinity Irish Dancers!
They came to St. Alphonsus and performed for our entire school, showcasing many of their Irish dances as well as teaching us about their special costumes and shoes. We also got a chance to learn a special dance at the end of the program.
It was a great way to get in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day!

Thank you for Your Support of This Year's Book Fair!
Thank you so much for supporting the Book Fair. Although sometimes it might feel more like the Zero Educational Value Nonsense Fair with all the erasers, pens, journals, and posters available (hahaha), we are happy to report that many kids bought lots of books and we were also able to restock lots of our classroom libraries and the school library with new books for every student to enjoy! Every purchase, no matter how big or how small, supports St. Alphonsus. Mrs. Schermetzler is so thankful for your help in volunteering as well!
Together, our school community does such great things for our school, and the Book Fair is a perfect example! Thank you again for your support!
