Thank you for your participation in our 2020 Field Day!
Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

We are COVID Strong at Guadalupe... we ended last week with some wonderful " Field & Stream" events bringing us closer as a community and keeping our Many Parts focused on the One Body of OLG. Click on those pictures to see more of each event!

Tonight we bring new families to our school (virtually) with the "New Family Night" event. Welcome New Families!

Tomorrow, we have our first ever "Virtual Family Group" at 10am (check you email for specific zoom invites that came from your child's family group leaders). Bring some stories to share of what you've been doing in the past week(s). Your 8th grade family leaders have some engaging activities for all!

And of course, in our greater One Body of OLG, we continue to live stream Masses as a whole parish. Coming next week on Thursday, May 21st @ 9am is our next "All School Mass" which we'll have our own school twist to the daily mass. We look forward to seeing you there!
This newsletter I also want to take a moment to address the future. In the short term, our graduation plans, hiring, and wrapping up this school year continue to dwell a lot on my mind. But as we look ahead farther, there are still unknowns. As we begin to think about our 2020-2021 school year, here are some things of which we're certain:
  1. The safety and health of our students, families, and staff are paramount.
  2. Our mission is best carried forth "as a sacramental community", which means we will continue to build our plans with the focus on engaging our whole community as much as we can
  3. Our staff and teachers are committed to the best academics that we can deliver in these times. We continue to revise and update our plans and actions.
We are not alone in this time of uncertainty, planning as best we can (with contingencies) at this time. While seeking guidance from our peer schools and the Archdiocese, we are also looking at state and public health requirements. Through the next weeks, into June and the summer ahead, we will continue to adjust our plans and update our contingencies. Stay tuned each week we will have more. Next week we will focus on our remaining weeks in June, and have firm information on returning equipment and materials that you've been using around your home learning spaces, as well as final pickup of personal items from the school and yearbooks.
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

THANK YOU!

#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that took place on May 5, 2020. #GivingTuesday in May is in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.

We had some great donors give through FaceBook! Thank you for your generosity.

You can still help us reach our $20,000 Goal to help our OLG Families and Staff during this time.

This platform is allowing us to accept donations online with reduced processing fees. Please help bridge the gap for our school and families in need due to COVID19.

The 2020 Battle of the Books Competition has carried on online this year!
Throughout the school year, students have been invited to read books from the Sasquatch Award List so they could join this spring's competition. This second annual competition began this week with the a round of competitions amongst grade-level peers. Student teams competed against their classmates; this year we had three fourth grade teams participate and five fifth grade teams, plus a new addition of a Middle School team!

Congrats to the our school's 4th Grade champions, advancing to the next level:
Angel, Esme, Allison, and Tallulah.

Our 5th Grade champions will also advance to the school competition; congrats:
Nathan, Edie, Gia, and Desmond.

Congratulations to all competitors, you've done a fantastic job and I look forward to seeing these 4th & 5th graders compete against each other next Tuesday afternoon in our Battle of the Books School event.

New this year is the addition of the Middle School Evergreen Award competition. Congrats to Kaley, Rebecca, and Kelsey who will represent OLG at the finals on May 27th. Excellent work ladies. Thanks for pioneering the program at OLG!

A Teenager, Interrupted
Over the course of our school shutdown I’ve shared thoughts on supporting our children, as we move through this major shift in our lives. Washington students have been thrown into an unprecedented challenge with the closure of schools more than 6 weeks ago. Kids are missing friends, feeling bored, scared and irritated… Others have been having fun, being creative, and embracing their desire to see change.
The Seattle Times recently shared the perspectives of 8 young people who acknowledge how the pandemic is changing them.  Continue Reading

Get Back in the LOOP!
Due to coronavirus concerns, this year’s Loop the ‘Lupe Obstacle Course 5K is now on  Sunday,   August 23 rd , 2020, starting at 1:00 pm . We’re adjusting the schedule based on advice from the Governor’s Office and the City of Seattle Parks and Recreation Department. Barring any major setbacks, large gatherings of 50+ people will be allowed in our state by the first of August, so we’re planning on a fun, end-of-summer event with appropriate physical distancing. Money raised from Loop the ‘Lupe supports a wide range of social service work at OLG, and WE NEED YOU! Sign up for the race at  www.loopthelupe.com , follow @loopthelupe on Facebook, and (if you’re just in it for the t-shirt), consider being a stay-at-home “Lounge Chair Looper,” a new option for this year! Questions? Contact Race Director Brian Callanan at  loopthelupe@gmail.com
Youth Migrant Project is on!
The Youth Migrant Project summer mission trip for teens (graduating 8 th graders through graduating seniors) is moving ahead! We will be accepting applications and preparing for a week of service from August 10-14. This program gives youth a chance to learn about migrant life by visiting the camps, working in the fields, and distributing food through the Tri-Parish Food Bank. We will continue to monitor updated health advice as we proceed. Even if the regular program isn’t possible in its entirety, we hope to do something to assist the essential farmworkers and their families as they labor to put food on our tables! Applications are due by Sunday, May 31. Email Jennifer for more information.

COVID-19 Assistance: Ways to Give and Get Help
With the ongoing pandemic, many of us find ourselves in difficult situations. Homeschooling, stress, isolation, financial strain, and health concerns are some of new challenges we face. Know that you are not alone. We are here to support you in any way we can. We are continually adding to our COVID-19 Assistance page. Whether you need assistance, want to lend a hand, or both, we’ve got resources for you. We also have prayer resources to strengthen you on the journey. Please send additional resource to Jennifer.

2020 Census: Be Counted!
In Washington State, $16.7 billion in tax dollars for our communities are at stake, along with our democratic representation in Congress. We cannot afford to miss counting anyone in this census, especially traditionally undercounted people of color, immigrants, tribes, rural communities, and young children. It is said that budgets are moral documents. In this case, the data that informs budgets and allocations of resources has moral implications too!  It’s not too late to be counted. Go to https://census2020.gov to be counted and encourage others to do the same!
