Dear OLG Families,
So nice to "see" so many at our
School Mass yesterday; the running comments are especially endearing and a great way to interact alongside the Mass. Special thanks to Ms. Sager and students; our picture here is our group sharing the music with us all... I hope you were singing loud at home too! The parish is continuing to work on improving the livestream experience. They are also inviting all to
send a family picture in (with names) so we can "fill our pews" even as we move in our gradual re-opening process. More details of it all
here and
here. Also, remember to wear red for Pentecost on May 31st!
Last week our "Virtual Family Group" was another awkward yet fun experience of sharing and laughing and being in community together. A few pics above show the fun we've had, thank you all for your excellent participation!

Keep track of upcoming events to round out this year! Many of our normal events, such as an 8th Grade "gifts assembly", Graduation, and "jump up" day are getting re-worked and "virtualized" to continue to make our days together this year special. We are constantly working on our online calendar to keep things up-to-date.
June 15th/16th will be scheduled days for families to return equipment and materials that you've been using around your home learning spaces, as well as final pickup of personal items from the school. Unfortunately, yearbooks are currently delayed in shipment and may have a separate pickup day.
As for next Fall, we are not alone in our uncertainty and are planning as best we can (with several contingencies). Public health requirements and state-level decisions are beginning to come clearer. As we roll into June and the summer ahead we will continue to adjust our plans and keep you informed. Stay tuned as each week we will have more!

Celebrating our 8th Graders
This past week began our tribute to our 8th graders on Facebook. Make sure you check out their amazing "WHY OLG" statements and videos! They are #worldchangers!
You can still help us reach our $20,000 Goal as we have reduced processing fees until MAY 31!
100 donations of $100 will get us to our goal!
Share our donation posts on Social Media or donate button below! Your support allows OLG to not only respond to emergent educational learning resource needs during the Covid-19 crisis, but also continue to fund classroom programs and resources that fuel innovation and stoke our kids' interest in learning!
Their Facebook videos are a huge testimony to the educational experience at OLG!
Looking for other ways to help?
During this time at home social media has been our link to each other and the world. Can you share one of our posts ? Comment , like, sharing on Instagram and Facebook expands OLG's reach to the community. Please take a moment each day if you can and share!

Keep kids up and moving!
Better learning at home
As we continue in our new way of living, we are adapting and hopefully acquiring new habits, new ways of living and coping.
The need children have for physical exercise is especially important during remote learning. The recesses and P.E. classes where they can run, yell, laugh and let off stress are missed pieces to their learning.
The following Opinion letter was published in the Times, May 16
th
. It supports the physical activity importance, not just for students, but for all of us.
Read Now
I have opened myself up to different modes of exercises just from selecting videos for my Remote Learning classes. I do the videos before deciding on posting. -- What an experience and I am feeling muscles that haven’t worked like that in a long time! The next week of videos are longer in workout time. Again, choose what you like to do especially if it works for you. But be open to trying something new or challenging. Your body is amazing (at any age), it will adapt and meet the challenge!

Youth Migrant Project is on!
The
Youth Migrant Project
mission trip for teens (graduating 8
th
graders through graduating seniors) is moving ahead! We are accepting applications and preparing for service in the Skagit Valley from
August 10-14.
Come learn about migrant life by visiting the camps, working in the fields, and distributing food at the Tri-Parish Food Bank. We will join with youth from St. Anne, St. James and St. George. We will continually monitor health advice as we proceed. If the full program isn’t possible, we hope to find ways to assist essential farmworkers and their families as they labor to put food on our tables!
Applications are due by Sunday, May 31.

Thank You for Supporting St. Vincent de Paul
Thanks to generous gifts from the parish community and beyond, our St. Vincent de Paul Conference was able to deliver approximately $23,000 in Goods and Services to 320 individuals in April alone – a new Conference high by far! Our Conference is seeing twice as many calls as usual during these difficult times and many are requesting assistance with large rent payments. Thank you for your generosity. Please continue to support our Vincentians in their good work as you are able. It’s easy to give online at
www.olgseattle.org
by clicking the “Donate” button. You can also send a check made out to “OLG” with “SVDP” in the memo.
Volunteers Needed to Film our Masses
We would like to train 6-8 people to learn our new camera system. It will be fairly easy as there will be programmed "shots" along with the ability to manually control the camera when needed. We plan on recording Sunday and daily masses and special occasions such as baptisms, confirmations, etc. If you are interested in getting trained for this new and important ministry, please
let Helen know
. This will be a work in progress so don't worry about being perfect! This is a great way to earn commitment hours.
