Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

Tomorrow is FIELD DAY! How exciting... we celebrate the end of MAPs testing, all the great performances of the past few weeks, and a fun year together! Students will be playing games in their family groups all morning, so please enjoy "Free Dress" but keep in mind staying appropriate for the weather... think good PE clothes. The weather is forecast to be nice and cool in the morning, so we shouldn't overheat but making sure your child has a water bottle is always a good idea! Remember no need to pack a lunch, as your parent support of the HotDog Lunch is great!

Thank you in advance for all the Parent Org support for our fabulous lunch, for Mrs. Powell and the 7th grader leaders of these games, and for all the excellent participation!!! We'll wrap-up our great day of school in the gym for an all school assembly (and yes, some volleyball fun between staff & the 8th graders).

Tomorrow is also our last day for the NPH drive! We've been working for years with Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (Spanish for "Our Little Brothers and Sisters"), so sending in a little cash will give our school the ability to continue to pool our resources to sponsor a family as we've been doing for more than 7 years!

Read on in this newsletter for more news of our 6th & 1st Grade Salmon release, plus lots going on tomorrow night and next week, plus summer plans and more!
Yours in (the risen) Christ,

Anton Kramer

The Cycle of Life

The first and sixth graders released the delicate Coho fingerlings into the local Fauntelroy Creek last Tuesday. They reared these amazing creatures with joy and great care.

They waited for the lovely orange eggs to hatch with great anticipation. They watched as the new alevin hid in the dark corners of the tank. The delighted as the fry began to float up to the surface and then dart about with greater and greater certainty. They carefully fed and maintained the tank as the fry grew slowly into fingerling. So, of course, saying goodbye was bittersweet.

Knowing the salmon’s journey is just beginning is reassuring and awe-inspiring!

As I watched the release I was struck by the similar cycle we experience here at OLG. The first graders joyful abandon and wonder is almost tangible. Similar to those darting fry, full of movement and life! I remember these confident sixth graders as cherub-faced first graders and in sat in awe of how they have grown, taking care of the salmon and their little buddies with such care. Like the fingerling, they are more steady in their movements, more confident in their path. And I look beyond. Where they are heading. Surely they will change and grow just as the smolt do. They, like the Coho, will prepare and then journey into the vast world. They will encounter obstacles and great triumphs as they respond to the call of the Creator.

Ahhhh…the cycle of life.

Spotlight on Catholic Relief Services
“Every human being has the right to freedom of movement and of residence within the confines of his own State. When there are just reasons in favor of it, he must be permitted to emigrate to other countries and take up residence there. The fact that he is a citizen of a particular State does not deprive him of membership in the human family, nor of citizenship in that universal society, the common, world-wide fellowship of men.”
~ St. Pope John XXIII

The Catholic Church is on the front line of the migration crisis in West Africa. Catholic Relief Services works to provide comprehensive, integrated support services for migrants and their communities. Visit  https://www.crs.org  for more information to see how you can help. Thanks for your support!
