Peace, Hope, Love and Prayers offered during the Election Vigil
Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

November is here, with stormy weather... and an unsettled national outlook. Yet OLG brings calm in the rough waters. Our parish "Voting Vigil" on Tuesday held many a peaceful moment. And the blessings of our saints were certainly felt in Thursday's "All School Mass". We are missing Fr. Kevins' presence at Mass, but our 3rd graders did a tremendous job preparing and sharing in the leadership of our word & communion service. This was our first "hybrid" live-stream & in-person service for our school and it turned-out wonderfully with the Kindergarten, our 3rd grade families, and Day Campers able to attend. If you missed the first part where all our saints are in view, click the image of the service or go to the vimeo link to watch again. Thank you especially to Mrs. Helen O. and Mrs. Sager for the fabulous work to make this go so smoothly, and we look forward to returning to more in-person Mass opportunities as they come available.
As we share in the Bread of Life these upcoming weeks, I know we are seeking normalcy and fighting the fatigue of COVID protocols. Please consider all of our community in minimizing travels and making safe choices around your holiday plans. In light of the ever increasing numbers on the PHSKC key indicators we continue our school's path of caution for in-person activities, but are also continuing to be responsive to needs in our community.

Mrs. Kristin, our counselor, and all our middle school team are putting in place some small group / in-person opportunities for upcoming Wednesdays. You may wonder why we are shifting focus to in-person activities for older students rather than our 1st grade returning next. While we all experience the toll of extended COVID restrictions on our mental health and stress levels, it is our teens who are feeling the social-emotional stress most acutely. Yes, the state's "decision tree" prioritizes younger learners, acknowledging challenges of remote instruction for young students. Fortunately, our talented teachers have helped even our youngest gain great independence and abilities to interact in the online learning platforms. In our older students we have been listening to the rising social-emotional stress that underpins all academic abilities. Teen years are naturally a time when children begin defining and finding their own voice outside of their parents, and seek meaning in their own ways. Family dynamics naturally shift in the middle school years, yet with all-remote/stay-at-home stress of COVID this has been exceptionally trying times for middle school students to build meaningful social structures. We are working to bridge these needs through upcoming Middle School a-synch/Wednesday opportunities. Middle school students are also working in setting our traditional family groups, JDP, service, and leadership experiences in motion.

One leadership and service activity that our 4th graders proudly bring to our school is their outreach to Veterans and presenting our school Veterans Day Assembly. Tuesday at 9am our all school assembly (thru zoom link) will take place, with 4th graders leading and as always, a special guest from our community to share their story of service to our country! Wednesday, Nov 11th, is a holiday, so we can all relax and enjoy some a-synch, no-screen time that day for all of our health and well-being, but especially to remember all who've served. Thank you 4th grade for preparing and leading us!
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

Year of the Eucharist
Saturday, Nov 7, 9:30-11:00 am (by Zoom)
The Eucharist is the center of our Catholic faith and yet, especially during COVID-19, it can be difficult for us to keep it at the center of our lives. Gather with others as to grow in our understanding of Eucharist and how we can open up to the many gifts that it offers us, both individually and as a community.

OLG's annual Ethical Trade Sale is going online this year! Many of the artisans, farmers, and communities we support through the sale are struggling more than ever this year as COVID spreads and sales slow. Through our virtual sale, you'll find a large variety of unique, quality items and gifts. You will also empower others AND support OLG (20% of sales come back to us)!  Win, win, win! Simply shop through our custom parish link: serrv.org?a=olgfairtrade (an orange banner at the top of the page will say OLG). Bonus, you can also get free shipping on 11/14-11/15 (code: SEHOLIDAY20).

This year, we are also selling Pura Vida coffee. Pura Vida has been VERY generous every year, donating 100% of sales (sometimes even more!). Their business is struggling with COVID and now we can return the generosity. To order their delicious ground or whole bean coffee, contact Erin by November 30. We’ll have coffee ready to pick up at OLG parish and/or school in time for your Christmas celebrations! Interested in products from our other annual vendors? Visit our website for links to their sites!
