Leadership Team Updates

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

Happy Monday, and Happy Veterans Day. We are so thankful for all the veterans in our school community and beyond. This week we will be celebrating Veterans at our school Mass on Wednesday. Please consider joining us and inviting the Veterans in your life to join us as well!

A few other reminders for you this week!

Home & School has a LOT going on lately! Be sure to check out their section of the newsletter below for information about the upcoming Cookie Walk & the Poinsettia Sale, going on now, in addition to another Milwaukee Wave game in January. Last year's game was so fun, so we hope you can join us for this fun event after the holidays!

Our friends over at St. Thomas More High School also have a lot going on lately, including a Christmas STEM Camp and an opportunity for 2nd & 3rd graders to try out for their spring musical, The Wizard of Oz. Get the details below.

Enjoy these next few weeks of quiet time and thankfulness, because December is going to be here before you know it and we have so much going on at school during the Advent season! Be sure to save those dates below and look for more details in the coming weeks.

With that, we wish you a great week! As a reminder, you can always find an archive of our school newsletters on our website here. This is the first stop for you for information about what's going on at school!

Best regards,

Ms. Parey, Principal

Mrs. Schermetzler & Mrs. Bruhn, Leadership Team

6th Grade Medieval Battle

Last week, our 6th Grade Social Studies class hosted a medieval battle!

In Social Studies, the have been learning about the Middle Ages. Students have been studying not only the time period, but also things like the jobs, armor, and weaponry of the age. Mr. Kneifl created an interactive game where students could earn various coins to outfit their soldiers & armory, and it all culminated in a chess-like battle match between two teams in class.

We've Made Some Updates to the School Store!

We have added long sleeve Carolina Blue polos to the school store and are making a few other items "approved" for Mass so you can have a lot of options to keep your student warm in church in the coming months. We 've also added a sweater option to the store! Please refer to the Visual Guide sent out in previous newsletters to help you understand what is and is not allowed to be worn at Mass. You can also view a PDF here.

In addition, we have added some items for Christmas, including some items for Grandparents (pictured)! Please check out the store here and cross off some early gift shopping!

The drop dead date for Christmas orders will be December 6. This would guarantee you will have your items by our last day of school before Christmas break, Friday, December 20.

The Poinsettia Sale is back!

It's the mooooost wonderful time of the year! Aka time to think about purchasing your poinsettias in the Home & School Poinsettia Sale to benefit our school. Check out all the details below and print an order form here. A printed copy of the order form went home last week.

Poinsettias make beautiful gifts for neighbors and friends. Consider taking your order form to your office to see if your colleagues would like one! Thank you in advance for your support!

It's time to think about Cookie Walk!

Cookie Walk is a beloved St. Alphonsus School tradition. School families bake & sell cookies after all masses on the weekend of December 9 & 10. You can find more details below.

We ask ALL school families to participate by committing to bake at least 4 dozen cookies or holiday treats. Forms will go home this week OR you can print out the form below, also linked here. All families who return a form will be entered to win an Out-of-Uniform pass for their child.

Check out the information below and look for our volunteer sign-up genius next week!

The Stewardship Committee Would Love Your Help on Name Tag Sundays!

The Stewardship Committee will be holding Name Tag "Sunday" on the weekends that we have Hospitality. We're still a small committee and haven't started recruiting members yet. Rather than the 2 of us working the name tag tables all weekend, we are hoping that school families could help.  There will be 2 tables in the Gathering Space at which we’ll have name tags, markers and signage (you won’t have to do the set-up). We’ll need at least one person at each table.

Tasks:

  • Arrive 30 minutes before mass (we want to make sure that the folks who come early to mass are greeted too)
  • Stand at the table and welcome parishioners as they come into mass
  • Encourage them to make and wear a name tag
  • Have a friendly, upbeat disposition
  • Greet and make small talk with your fellow parishioners

Kiddos and other family members are welcome to help too! Please click on this sign-up genius to sign up for November & December. More dates coming soon!

If you're going to be at mass, why not help out? All we ask is that you come to mass 30 minutes early, stand at one of the tables, welcome your fellow parishioners and invite them to wear a name tag!
