Leadership Team Updates

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

Happy Monday! We hope you are all having a fantastic November. Here's what's going on at school this week!

Winter is coming! There is the potential for some snow in the forecast on Wedsnesday evening and into Thursday, so now is a great time to check that you have snow gear that fits so that you're ready to go. School policy dictates that students may NOT play in the snow without proper boots, snow pants, etc. so please get ready now so that students will be well-dressed and warm if it does snow this week.

Our next pizza lunch fundraiser is next week Tuesday. All pizza lunch forms are due TOMORROW MORNING, no exceptions. Forms were sent home last week. You can find a copy of the form available below.

Cookie Walk forms are coming home with students today or tomorrow! More details below, but as a reminder, we ask ALL families to participate in baking cookies for the walk. Thank you in advance for your help in continuing this St. Alphonsus tradition!

Please make plans to join us for the Advent Wreath Blessing on Monday, December 2 at 2:00pm in the church. You are welcome to bring an advent wreath from home to be blessed. Please see the invitation below! We will be sharing more about our upcoming Advent activities with you next week!

With that, we wish you a great week! As a reminder, you can always find an archive of our school newsletters on our website here. This is the first stop for you for information about what's going on at school!

Best regards,

Ms. Parey, Principal

Mrs. Schermetzler & Mrs. Bruhn, Leadership Team

Give Back To Your Favorite Catholic School Teacher!

In honor of Catholic Schools Week, January 26 to February 1, 2025, Catholic Financial Life is celebrating by holding our annual Give Back Contest!

Catholic school teachers serve an important role—to prepare the next generation for future success and reinforce Catholic values that will help children mature into Christ-like individuals. They help their students to live their faith beyond the walls of school buildings and navigate the intersection of faith and culture. So much of what teachers do has a profound impact on the lives of students.

How It Works

Nominate a Catholic school teacher here for a chance for them to receive a $500 cash prize in addition to a $4,000 donation to their school. Submission deadline is January 3, 2025. Voting will take place from January 13-17, 2025, on Catholic Financial Life’s website.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are November 21!

This year's conferences will take place on Thursday, November 21 from 4 to 8pm. You can sign up here--please look for your teacher's available slots to sign up for each specific class.

Middle School Parents (Grades 6-8) should sign up here with their students homeroom teacher only. This allows all middle school parents the opportunity for a conference. 5th Grade parents with who previously scheduled conferences with Ms. Morrison for Math will ONLY be meeting with Miss Peacock. Ms. Morrison will provide her with Math updates for the 5th grade.

Fall conferences are mandatory. If you cannot make this event or your teacher runs out of available slots that work with your schedule, please reach out to them directly to reschedule. Similarly, please also note that you will not find a slot for Ms. Hall, our Spanish teacher, Mrs. Baur, our Guidance Counselor, or Mr. Gutche, our PE teacher. If you have concerns or questions for Spanish, Counseling, or PE, please email those teachers individually and set up a time to discuss your concerns. They have limited availability due to their part time schedule. Thank you!

We've Made Some Updates to the School Store!

We have added long sleeve Carolina Blue polos to the school store and are making a few other items "approved" for Mass so you can have a lot of options to keep your student warm in church in the coming months. We 've also added a sweater option to the store! Please refer to the Visual Guide sent out in previous newsletters to help you understand what is and is not allowed to be worn at Mass. You can also view a PDF here.

In addition, we have added some items for Christmas, including some items for Grandparents (pictured)! Please check out the store here and cross off some early gift shopping!

The drop dead date for Christmas orders will be December 6. This would guarantee you will have your items by our last day of school before Christmas break, Friday, December 20.

The Poinsettia Sale is back!

It's the mooooost wonderful time of the year! Aka time to think about purchasing your poinsettias in the Home & School Poinsettia Sale to benefit our school. Check out all the details below and print an order form here. A printed copy of the order form went home last week.

Poinsettias make beautiful gifts for neighbors and friends. Consider taking your order form to your office to see if your colleagues would like one! Thank you in advance for your support!

It's time to think about Cookie Walk!

Cookie Walk is a beloved St. Alphonsus School tradition. School families bake & sell cookies after all masses on the weekend of December 7 & 8. You can find more details below.

We ask ALL school families to participate by committing to bake at least 4 dozen cookies or holiday treats. Forms will go home today OR you can print out the form below, also linked here. All families who return a form will be entered to win an Out-of-Uniform pass for their child.

Check out the information below and look for our volunteer sign-up genius next week!

Alumni & Parish News

Mark your calendars and join us for our Parish Music Ministry Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 8th at 2pm!

Our theme this year is "Jesus, Hope For the World" and features music from our Adult Choir, Children's Choir, and our Bell Choir. Christmas cookies and refreshments will be provided after the concert in our Community Room. We hope to see you there!

The Stewardship Committee Would Love Your Help on Name Tag Sundays!

The Stewardship Committee will be holding Name Tag "Sunday" on the weekends that we have Hospitality. We're still a small committee and haven't started recruiting members yet. Rather than the 2 of us working the name tag tables all weekend, we are hoping that school families could help.  There will be 2 tables in the Gathering Space at which we’ll have name tags, markers and signage (you won’t have to do the set-up). We’ll need at least one person at each table.

Tasks:

  • Arrive 30 minutes before mass (we want to make sure that the folks who come early to mass are greeted too)
  • Stand at the table and welcome parishioners as they come into mass
  • Encourage them to make and wear a name tag
  • Have a friendly, upbeat disposition
  • Greet and make small talk with your fellow parishioners

Kiddos and other family members are welcome to help too! Please click on this sign-up genius to sign up for November & December. More dates coming soon!

If you're going to be at mass, why not help out? All we ask is that you come to mass 30 minutes early, stand at one of the tables, welcome your fellow parishioners and invite them to wear a name tag!
