Day Camp: Jackson (1st Gr) is set & ready in distance learning mode!
Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,
Our 5th graders did a tremendous job preparing and leading our livestream All School Mass this week focused on St. Teresa of Avila. Even though it moved from a full Mass into a more simplified prayer service, our 5th graders were ready and prepared (and helped me so much in breaking open the word in Fr. Kevin's place). Thank you to Mr. Casey, Helen, and Mrs. Sager for the wonderful work in helping prepare the students in leadership and sharing!

As October moves along, I wanted to share a few more updates with you:
  • School Pictures (Oct 26): Yes, we are able to do school pictures, with precautions and several options: See more info below for how individual school pictures is working.
  • Conferences (Oct 29/30): Signups are open now for families with multiple students; everyone else please wait till Sunday to allow larger families to coordinate their multiple classrooms. Note that the half-days on Friday Oct. 23rd and Wednesday Oct 28th are set aside for teachers to update their MAPs data, grading, and make physical preparations for the conferences.
  • Safe Environment: Every year around this time our classes focus on a special topic of safe environment for children. Just as volunteers and staff in all our parish and schools hold adult safe environment training (through Virtus), we also teach students lessons on how to stay safe. If you'd prefer to opt-out of this class discussion for your child, the letter that explains more (and sign-off) is found here. It is only necessary for family who wants to opt-out to return to teacher/office.
Our return to in-person learning continues to develop, even in our current "pause" in brining back more students. K.C. Public Health this week added this guidance for schools:
"In short, for schools that have already brought back some students in-person, PHSKC does not advise rolling back those measures at this time. Continuity for kids and educators is one important factor that school districts need to weigh before making quick shifts to all distance-learning, particularly for early grades."
I have an all-Principal call with PHSKC on Monday morning for more clarity and will have more news of our next steps for next classes to return after that.

In the words of St. Teresa, "Be gentle to all and stern with yourself." Thank you for all you do to help build our community together and continue to share in the Bread of Life.
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

2021 Annual OLG Auction- Full Steam Ahead!
Class Projects: More Info on the Baskets

Class projects have transitioned this year from priceless works of student art to themed baskets! Why? First, because it's not convenient (or necessarily safe) for our kids to be working closely together on communal projects right now. Second, we're hoping these big, fun baskets will encourage cross-class bidding (and interest from bidders around the country in case of a virtual auction). Every single class is responsible for creating a class basket.

The Rules: it has to be themed, it has to incorporate the kids in some way, and the cost must stay within the $200-$400 allocated for the class.

Next Steps: 1. Contact Cassie Jenkins and let her know your plans, whether or donor or buyer/assembler. She will work with you on theme and help inspire ideas! 2. If you're a donor, make your donation here and indicate in the Notes that it's for your grade's class project. 3. If you're assembling the basket, save your receipts and turn them into Cassie for reimbursement.

In other news...
Thanks to the many families who are continuing to make their donations in cash. Our early liquidity is allowing us to procure and put together a slew of new items and experiences that are going to blow you away! I'm so excited to start featuring some of the items that will soon be up for auction!

If you have an item to donate and haven't yet reached out to Development Director Rebecca Arcarese, please e-mail her as soon as possible.

Questions about this year's Auction? Contact Auction Chair Hilary Reeves or Development Director Rebecca Arcarese.

Counselor's Corner
Hello, caregivers and parents!

In the past few weeks, all of our students from K through 8th grade have been learning about a tool called the Mood Meter, developed by the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. This research-based tool allows students to communicate about their emotions with adults. It is also a great way to build your children’s emotional intelligence and vocabulary for expressing how they are feeling.  Here is a great intro video about how it works.

Doing a Mood Meter check-in with your child in the morning and throughout the day fosters better communication and a stronger relationship with your child. Here’s a quick rundown of how to do it:
  1. Show a picture of a Mood Meter to your child (see links below).
  2. Ask your child, “Where are you on the Mood Meter right now?” Also show the child where you are on the Mood Meter, modeling that it’s ok for everyone to talk about their feelings. Emphasize that ALL feelings are ok - it’s what we do with our feelings that counts.
  3. Ask your child, “Where would you like to be on the Mood Meter?” Again, show the child your answer, too. Sometimes we don’t want to move on the Mood Meter because we’re feeling calm or happy, and that’s ok, too.
  4. If the child has indicated that he/she wants to change feelings, ask, “What can you do to help yourself get there?” or in some cases, “What do you need to get there?” Again, model this for your child by sharing your own ideas.

As always, I’m here to partner with you to help your children do their best in school. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need any help.
Warmly,
Ms. Kristin, OLG School Counselor

E-Sports Rocket League (Grades 4-8)
Hey CYO Bulldog families - We have a new and fun opportunity for kids to connect during this time of social distancing and hybrid/remote learning. CYO will be registering teams of 3 players from our parish/school to compete against other local Catholic parishes and schools in a private CYO season of Rocket League. Here’s a video [youtube.com] about the game. Visit our website registration portal to sign up your child by next Monday, October 19th

If your child has 2 friends they want to be a team with, indicate in the registration who you request your teammates to be. Otherwise, we will work to group your child with other kids looking to play. Teams will be assigned a “grade level” based on the oldest player on the team, and scheduled into divisions from grades 4-8. Each team will need to have one parent point of contact take the lead as “Coach” and help facilitate a mutually agreeable time to play with the opponent, so in your registration please also indicate if you are willing to be the team “Coach”. Games will be played each week, starting October 27, with a season ending tournament happening 12/15-12/21. Register here for $15/player

Remembering Your Loved Ones During the Month of November
The Catholic Church has a long tradition of remembering those who have died during the month of November, beginning with the Feast of All Souls. Besides those we remember on our All Souls Banners, people have traditionally submitted names of family and friends who have also passed to also be included. Please call or email the Parish Office. You may also make a donation in memory of your loved ones.
