Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

We've arrived at the middle of our first trimester! Amazing how the time flies. MAPs testing is wrapping up in most classes, and this Friday (Oct 9th) inservice day is all about getting prepared for the next stages. Teachers and staff are working on a variety of projects, from tech assistance to grade-book changes with the new ALMA system, to peer check-ins and coordinated planning. Our office is open for packet pickup all day, normal hours!

These days of COVID and distance learning are stressful. Whether a parent of a Preschooler navigating new school and in-person daily routines, or a family with multiple grades and multiple learning platforms to navigate, and not to speak of our own adult lives continuing with work stresses, we understand! I've kept Mrs. Kristin' info-graphic above from last week in our newsletter and know that we all are in need of prayer and rest. There is also a NAMI presentation noted below for parents to save the date on...
As I shared last week, our Parish Sunday livestream Mass (@ 10am) with the parish continues to be a place of respite, and this next week we also have our 5th grade preparing the All School Mass on Oct 15th @ 9am (same links).
Regarding our COVID data and ability to re-open in-person classes, I shared the major components of our plan on Monday. Preschool and PreK classes continue and our Kindergarten is in full strength this next week. Highlights of the plan include our continuation of Friday plans for K-5, and updated 1st-5th grade expected returns (read details on page 2). Thank you for all you do to help build our community together and continue to share the Bread of Life.
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

2021 Annual OLG Auction- Full Steam Ahead!
Class Projects: More Info on the Baskets

Class projects have transitioned this year from priceless works of student art to themed baskets! Why? First, because it's not convenient (or necessarily safe) for our kids to be working closely together on communal projects right now. Second, we're hoping these big, fun baskets will encourage cross-class bidding (and interest from bidders around the country in case of a virtual auction). Every single class is responsible for creating a class basket.

The Rules: it has to be themed, it has to incorporate the kids in some way, and the cost must stay within the $200-$400 allocated for the class.

Parent Roles: up to TWO families may designate their $200 cash donations to fund the class baskets. In addition to donor(s), we also need volunteers to work with Auction Projects Lead Cassie Jenkins to purchase items for and package the class basket. We still need Class Project Chairs for: PS, PK, 1st, 5th, and 7th. We need donors for: PS, PK, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 7th.

Next Steps: 1. Contact Cassie Jenkins and let her know your plans, whether or donor or buyer/assembler. She will work with you on theme and help inspire ideas! 2. If you're a donor, make your donation here and indicate in the Notes that it's for your grade's class project. 3. If you're assembling the basket, save your receipts and turn them into Cassie for reimbursement.

In other news...
Thanks to the many families who are continuing to make their donations in cash. Our early liquidity is allowing us to procure and put together a slew of new items and experiences that are going to blow you away! I'm so excited to start featuring some of the items that will soon be up for auction!

If you have an item to donate and haven't yet reached out to Development Director Rebecca Arcarese, please e-mail her as soon as possible.

Questions about this year's Auction? Contact Auction Chair Hilary Reeves or Development Director Rebecca Arcarese.

Counselor's Corner
Parents and caregivers are invited to join us Tuesday, Oct 27th 6:30-8 pm for a special presentation on Zoom by NAMI called “Ending the Silence.” The presentation is designed for adults with middle or high school-aged youth and will cover mental health warning signs, facts and statistics, how to talk with your child, and how to work with school staff.

NAMI will also be doing a Zoom presentation for our middle school students during their normal SEL class times on Wednesday, Nov 4th. Our students will learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if you or a loved one(s) are showing symptoms of a mental health condition.

The NAMI “Ending the Silence” presentations include two leaders: one who shares an informative PowerPoint presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition who shares their journey of recovery. Audience members can ask questions and gain understanding of an often-misunderstood topic. Through dialogue, we can help grow the movement to end stigma. We hope you can join us! Please mark your calendars and details about how to RSVP to receive the Zoom link will be announced soon!

Registration is On-going for all our Family Faith Formation Classes
Register and pay online. Virtual classes will start October 11th and family packets will be available for pick up with curriculum the week of October 5th through the 9th. Parents and Guardians, please note, that we have added another option for families to participate in our programs: 3rd-5th and 6th and 7th. If you are wanting to limit your child’s screen time, you can have the option of registering for these two classes and receive the curriculum and work at home with no virtual class time with the catechist. Please note, that this only applies to these two classes, as Sac Prep One and Two will need to participate in all virtual classes with their catechist. Contact Marion Kari 206 935-0358 for questions.

Support the Welcome Table Meal Program
The Welcome Table serves lunch to neighbors in need in the White Center area every Saturday at noon at The Body of Christ Church (1320 SW 102nd St). In addition, snacks, toiletries, and clothing are handed out. Support the meal by donating non-perishable food (fruit, veggies, meats, soup, string cheese, mac & cheese, granola bars, cereal, shelf-stable milk, etc. .). They also need household cleaning supplies (dish soap, toilet cleaner, all-purpose cleaners, detergent). Drop off donations between 11-11:30am in the back parking lot before guests arrive. Volunteers will unload it for you!
