We had a SLIME-tastic week last week!
Students had a great time SLIMING me and Father Kevin on Friday! This was our all-school reward for the Fun Run, and I think you can tell from the photo we had a lot of fun. We will share more pictures of this event on our socials this week!
Please also thank the grandparents and VIPs in your lives for their attendance at Grandparents Day last week! We had a fantastic time having everyone in the building. We enjoyed Mass together, shared a little bit about our Shout Hosanna program, and spent time in classrooms and visiting other areas of the school. Grandparents could stop and read the apples in our "orchard" where students wrote why they love spending time with them! We finished the morning off with some bingo. A great time was had by all, and you can see a few photos below and we will share more on our social media channels this week.
Speaking of Shout Hosanna, you are invited to join us this year! This wonderful 45-minute music program takes place once a quarter and is directed by Mr. & Mrs. Zelinka in our school gym. It is a lot of fun and we would love to have parents come participate. You can find all the dates and details about where to enter school and when below!
A couple of other quick reminders this week:
-
We've noticed that some families utilizing the gym carline in the morning have not been following our exiting procedures. Please note that the carline is ONE way and all cars should be exiting onto Schoolway through the side gate. This policy is in place for safety reasons, so please be sure to exit only onto Schoolway and do not circle back through the lot to exit by the aparment buildings. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
-
A reminder that Thursday, October 23 is a pizza party reward for several of our classes who earned this as part of the Fun Run! These classes are: 7th, 5th, 4th, 2nd, and 4K. Because of this, there are not enough numbers for hot lunch, so all other classes will need to bring a cold lunch and a beverage that day. Thank you for your understanding; you can see an updated October lunch calendar below.
-
Friday, October 31, we will have a Halloween Spirit Day! Guidance on Halloween costumes is below. Please read carefully, and please also note that the Halloween costume guidance does NOT apply to costumes at Trunk or Treat. Feel free to reach out to me directly with questions. One addition to the below guidlines: NO inflatable costumes will be allowed during the school day. These pose a safety risk for students when navigating stairs and hallways. Thank you!

Our 8th Grade is in the last week of hosting their food drive! They are currently reading The Hunger Games in their Literature class and have planned this service project to go with their unit. Check out the flyer below! This week they are collecting canned fruits and veggies!
This newsletter is our number one communication tool to you as parents. We ask that you please read it thoroughly each week. Our school website is also a great resource for you and has lots of information available under the PARENTS tab at the top of the page. You can also always find an archive of our school newsletters on our website here.
Have a great week and Go Brewers!
Best Regards,
Megan Sagat

| October Virtue: Responsibility | | |
Our October School-wide Virtue is Responsibility!
What are some ways you can cultivate virtues and continue talking about responsibility at home?
We spend a lot of time at school talking about the monthly virtue and what it looks like in our classrooms. Each teacher has the virtue of the month posted. As an example, the library virtue poster is shown here. Responsibility in the library looks like taking care of our books, remembering to bring our books back in a timely fashion, and being good stewards of the library by helping to clean up at the end of class.
What does responsibility look like in your home? Maybe it's putting their own laundry away, helping to clear the dinner table, and picking up toys. Ask your student about the virtue of responsibility some time this week and see what they say!

Important Notes:
-
All are welcome! Whether you host a trunk or not, come and join us for some Halloween fun. Costumes encouraged!
-
Please enter through the South entrance of the parking lot. The North portion of the parking lot will be blocked off so everyone is safe while trick or treating. There is plenty of parking available on the south end of the lot (from the playground equipment and south)
- Only those who signed up in advance to host a trunk may do so.
- Stop by the tables to:
- Vote for your favorite pumpkin (carved by the teachers and staff of St. Alphonsus, winners will be announced Monday morning)
- Vote for your favorite trunk, the top 3 with the most votes win a prize! (winners will be announced around 7:00pm)
- Trick or treating will officially kick off with a costume parade this year! Children should meet in the center about 5:55pm so they can join the parade and then start their trick or treating fun!
If you are hosting a trunk, please check in as you arrive. Only those adults who signed up in advance will receive a wristband from staff and will be allowed to hand out treats. Thank you for your understanding as we must follow Archdiocesan policy for Trunk or Treat events.
We are also in need of a few volunteers to help us set up and clean up. Please sign up here if you are available: St. Alphonsus Home & School: Trunk or Treat Volunteers
Thank you to everyone who has generously volunteered to host a trunk or carve a pumpkin, we could not do this without you!! If you have any questions, please contact Tricia Williams or Dawn Eisold.
