Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

Curriculum Nights have concluded and our year is fully under way. The Charleston Wrap fundraiser is moving into its second and final week next week, and there is a buzz amongst students every day; will we get to the $8,000 fundraising goal for Mr. Kramer to "Shave that Beard"? We shall see... I know we are over a quarter of the way there! Online reports show we've got about $2,000 raised there, but we won't really know until after all paper order sheets and checks come in next Friday (Sept. 27th). Keep up the good work!

Next week is also the beginning of MAPs Testing. For families unfamiliar with the Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP), here is an online parent guide: https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/
We use this as a key data point in tracking student growth through the year, and from year to year. Your student's classroom teacher will let you know which days are your classroom tests, please make sure to minimize absences, rest well, and have especially healthy breakfasts on those days!

OLG School is hiring. Our current openings are in playground monitors (also available for volunteer hours) and for EDC Staff, and soon the official job post for the full-time Development Director. Share these links out to anyone you know who is interested.

Save the date for the weekend of October 5th & 6th. Our Many parts our joined together twice that weekend, Saturday afternoon for Beers & Brats and Sunday @11am for our special blessing of all teachers in our One Body of OLG. I look forward to seeing you there!

Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

After School Tutoring
Welcome to the new school year!

Middle school students were given an overview of the tutoring program and  permission slips. Please read together with your student, sign, and return by this Friday, Sept. 20th.  There will be two mandatory trainings for middle school tutors on Tuesday Sept. 24th and Oct. 1st in the Math room at lunch recess. I am looking forward to working with our bright middle school leaders in this very important program!

After School Tutoring begins on Wednesday, Oct. 2nd at 2:15-3:00 pm. This is for grades 1-4 only to start. Kindergarten students will be referred in the second trimester. Parents will receive a letter from your teacher soon if your student needs this extra support.  Please note we have limited space, so only students with reading and math support will receive tutoring. Please return permission forms by Sept. 30th to your child's teacher.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Caring for God's Creation
Did you know that NASA has a website for kids about climate change?
What does global climate change mean? How do we know the climate is changing? What is happening to the oceans? What can we do to help? What else do we need to find out? Check out this website for interesting topics, answers to questions, games, and other information designed specifically for youth. And who knows, adults might also learn a few things!

Are you interested in being an altar server? Children 4 th  grade and older, and adults are invited to attend one of the two upcoming trainings: Monday, October 21,   3:15-4:15 pm, or Saturday, October 26, 10:00-11:00 am, in the church. This is a great opportunity for families to serve together. Information Helen Oesterle 206-935-0358.

Catechetical Certification Program: A foundational program for volunteers, adult learners, and parents/guardians of homeschoolers
This 6-8 month program is being offered at OLG and Holy Rosary parishes and provides the foundation and spiritual formation for knowing, living and teaching our Catholic faith. For more information, please see the latest bulletin or go to the parish website .

Season of Creation Novena  (September 1-October 4)
You are invited during this season to participate individually or as a family to pray not only for creation, but also for those impacted by climate change, and for all people to take seriously our responsibility to care for our “Common Home”. This novena, prepared by the OLG/HR Green Ministry, invites you to visit special places around West Seattle and White Center that reflect the local beauty that surrounds us, and places where efforts are taking place to restore or care for creation.   Click here to access it on your phone or tablet!
