Mrs. Sagat Says...

Thank you for a Fantastic Fun Run!

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

Thank you so much for your fantastic support of our Fun Run! Friday was a beautiful morning and the students had a great time running their laps. I continue to be so amazed by the depth of support we have here in our school community. To be able to raise over $27,000 in just a week is truly amazing, and I thank everyone who supported and helped us work towards this goal. I can't wait to be slimed by our students! This money will go towards many necessary technology upgrades we need throughout the school. We have already started the quoting process and we will keep you all posted as we purchase & use these items.

You can see some pictures of the Fun Run below AND read about an amazing update we just received this morning that involves Father Kevin getting slimed! We will also have more pictures on our social media channels this week! Thank you again to everyone who donated, you are truly making a difference for our school.

A few other short reminders this week:

  • October Cougar Club Calendars were due in mid-September. Please see an important reminder from Mrs. Pagac below about turning them in on time, and thank you for your cooperation with this policy!

  • The RSVP form for Grandparents Day is available for download below and a paper copy will also be coming home with your students this week. Grandparents and Grandfriends are invited to join us on Wednesday, October 15 for a fun-filled morning! Please note that we have a different check-in process this year so we will need grandparents names ahead of time in order to be able to check them in the morning of--thus NO late RSVPs or walk-ins will be accepted. Please return your RSVP form by Monday, October 13.

  • Our Picture Retake Day is tomorrow, Tuesday, September 30. You can find all the details below. ONLY students who have already requested a retake are allowed to be out of uniform tomorrow for their photos.

  • Our 8th Grade is hosting a food drive! They are currently reading The Hunger Games in their Literature class and have planned this service project to go with their unit. Check out the flyer below! This week they are collecting items for a Pasta Dinner. This includes noodles, jarred sauces, and vegetables. Thank you in advance for your donations!

This newsletter is our number one communication tool to you as parents. We ask that you please read it thoroughly each week. Our school website is also a great resource for you and has lots of information available under the PARENTS tab at the top of the page. You can also always find an archive of our school newsletters on our website here.

Have a great week!

St. Alphonsus Fun Run THANK YOU!

Thank you for your AMAZING support of the Fun Run!

The St. Al’s Fun Run was a HUGE success! The students were excited to work together and see what goals they could reach and they had an absolute BLAST on Friday running laps. We loved the energy added by all who came out to cheer them on!

We knocked it out of the park this year and together we raised over $27,000 for our school last week! This is incredible!

And guess what?! On Friday, Fr. Kevin challenged the kids to raise $30,000 by Wednesday--and then he would get slimed too. We are so excited to announce that WE DID IT! As of today, Monday, September 29, we have received over $32,000 in donations. How high can we go?!

Pledging will remain open until Wednesday, October 1.  This also gives some classrooms a few extra days to reach the next goal on their chart.  If you or someone you know wanted to make a donation, but just never got around to it, there’s still time!

Weekend challenge prizes and drawstring bag prizes will come home at the end of the week.

*The entire school has also earned a Crazy hair or hat day on Thursday, October 2.

Thanks again to our St. Alphonsus School community for making this Fun Run so successful! We appreciate everyone’s support to make this the best Fun Run yet!  Stay tuned for details on when we will SLIME Mrs. Sagat!

Picture Retake Day is tomorrow Tuesday, September 30.

Students having their picture taken may be out of uniform tomorrow to wear their picture clothes. ONLY students who submitted a request for retakes may be out of uniform.

The photographer has a list of students & staff who requested retakes and we will share with you the proofing & ordering information once we receive it.

Battle of the Books Is Back for Grades 4, 5 & 6!

Battle of the Books is Back!

This is a lively academic competition that improves reading comprehension, builds vocabulary, introduces students to new books & authors, and teaches teamwork, commitment, & sportsmanship. The program culminates in a tournament on Wednesday, April 30, at St. Jude School in Wauwatosa, where we will compete against other area schools!

How It Works

Teams of three students each from Grades 4, 5, and 6 read 45 pre-assigned books (15 books each) from October to March. Titles are from varying genres with a wide range of reading levels and subjects. Teams will gather after school once or twice a month for practice battles and to determine St. Alphonsus School’s Tournament Champs (one team per grade level). The Tournament Champs will go to the program-wide tournament in April.

Practice Schedule

The practice schedule/time commitment is progressive. We will meet once per month until January, when we will start meeting twice per month to have practice battles.

Meetings will be held after school in the library from 3:00-3:30 on the following dates:

  • October 13
  • November 17
  • December 15

Meetings will be held after school in the library from 3:00-4:00 on the following dates:

  • January 19
  • February 2 & 16
  • March 2, 16 & 30
  • April 20 - finalists only

Tournament

The 2025-2026 Battle of the Books tournament will be held on April 30, 2026 here at St. Jude School in Wauwatosa. More details will be provided as the date gets closer!

The permission slip and more info can be found here and students also brought home a paper copy last week! Permission slips are due back by Tuesday, October 7.

And here is the 2025-2026 Battle of the Books Book List!
