12th Edition | Dec 17, 2021
The Caribbean Cooperative MRV Hub (the "MRV Hub") is a sustainable cooperative institution for conducting climate change MRV in the Caribbean that generates objective data for use by Caribbean nations.

As part of the MRV Hub's commitment to keeping our members and interested parties updated we are pleased to share with you the MRV Hub Newsletter for December 2021 (12th Edition).

Wiley Barbour, Project Director
MRV Hub at COP26, Glasgow

The MRV Hub had a very fruitful COP26. We were able to meet with many of our member countries and partners in person, despite increased logistical difficulties due to COVID-19 and numerous COP decision-tracks this year.

We advanced multiple MRV Hub work areas over the course of the two weeks in Glasgow, key highlights include:
  • Hosting the 11th MRV Hub Steering Committee Meeting
  • Speaking at multiple events, including the UNFCCC Support Opportunities Available to Developing Country Parties for Implementing MRV and ETF and the UNFCCC NDC Gap Report side-events
  • Hon. Minister Erik Evelyn (St. Kitts & Nevis) speaking at the Data for Climate Action Transparency Capacity-Building Hub event
  • MRV Hub staff working directly with their delegations; via meetings, consultations, document review, and engaging in the negotiation process

Work Crew Update

The MRV Hub Work Crews have completed a successful first year of operation! We congratulate and thank work crew leads, Brittany Meighan and Dr. Michael Gillenwater (On-Road Mobile Sources), Dr. Anup Joshi (Forestry and Other Land Use), and Dr. Olia Glade (Data Management Systems) and their teams for the exceptional work done for the region thus far.
The tools produced include land use maps of Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago and respective FOLU emissions analysis for the period 2000-2020; activity data template for mobile combustion and stationary combustion specific to this region; and guidance documents for the expert group focus sectors. These tools are available to MRV Hub Member Countries.

Look out for the next call for participation in Year 2, which will feature the launch of an Agriculture Sector expert group.

MRV Hub Modeling & Projections Programme

Since its inception, the MRV Hub Modelling and Projections Programme (MPP) has continued to develop the modelling capacity in the region. This is essential to meet the growing demand for mitigation scenario assessments and to update and track the progress of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS).

More specifically the MPP has hosted multiple training sessions with member countries, Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Saint Lucia and St. Kitts & Nevis in the use of Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)’s Low Emissions Modelling Platform (LEAP) software to promote capacity building across the region and aid in the completion of reporting requirements. The MPP team continues to support countries with modelling and projections to draft mitigation assessment chapters of National Communications and Biennial Update Reports.

MRV Hub Annual Meeting 2022

Under the guidance of the MRV Hub Steering Committee, the MRV Hub Secretariat has started the planning of our Annual Meeting in 2022. We are most pleased to be in a position to announce that all efforts are being made to host an in-person meeting.

We are in the process of developing the budget, logistics, and agenda for the annual meeting to be held in Grenada during the third or fourth weeks of April 2022.

Stay tuned for the official "save the date" that will be issued in early January 2022 and we look forward to finally seeing many of our members and network partners after such a long break from travel.
