Chair's Corner

The last time we used tariffs as the basis for our nation’s economic system was before the automobile was invented, before the assembly line, before Black people and women could vote, before workers could unionize, and even before Donald Trump filed his company’s first bankruptcy.

Meanwhile the Republican Ohio House just voted to cut hundreds of millions in education for our students to give more money to a billionaire whose football team has the worst record in the league since he bought them. Talk about failing upwards. But that’s what happens in this country when you’re wealthy and control the politicians.

The problem with America’s economic system isn’t that we left behind a 19^th century economic policy, it’s because the rich get richer, while the rest of us are forced to fend for ourselves. Under Republicans, only those who are already rich are accumulating wealth and that’s led to the top 10% of households holding nearly 70% of our nation’s wealth, while the bottom half owns less than 4%. Cutting funding for education, health, Social Security, Medicaid, and making it harder to vote means we’re never going to be able to compete with other countries, or with the uber wealthy in our own country who have been holding us down for far too long. Democrats believe in more people having access to education, more people having good health care, and more people being allowed to participate in our politics equally which will allow more people to have more money. That’s the Democratic way.

Silicon Valley Congressman Ro Khanna (and his family from Cuyahoga) - A New Economic Patriotism Not a New Gilded Age

This amendment would authorize a $2.5 billion general obligation bond, limited to $250 million per year over 10 years, to fund the State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP) through the Ohio Public Works Commission.

Ohio Democratic State Reps and State Senators support Issue 2. It's a necessary vote to move funds from Columbus back to our cities.

What to Bring

You only need to provide one (1) of the acceptable forms of ID listed below.

Acceptable Photo Identification

An Ohio driver license (A digital ID, such as driver license in Apple Wallet, is not an acceptable form of photo ID for voting)
An Ohio state ID card
An interim identification form issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles
A U.S. passport or passport card
A U.S. military ID card, Ohio National Guard ID card, or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ID card (that includes the voter's name and photograph)
A voter presenting an Ohio driver license or Ohio ID card that shows voter’s former address is permitted to cast a regular ballot so long as the voter’s current residential address has been updated with the Board and appears in the official poll list of registered voters for that precinct.

The Proposed Ohio House of Representatives Budget Threatens the Funding of Public Libraries - The Ohio House of Representative’s proposed budget will dismantle the Public Library Fund – replacing it with an unstable funding structure that could severely impact the ability of public libraries in Cuyahoga County to offer programming, resources, services and spaces – just as the demand for these services is growing.

The proposed budget reduces funding for the libraries in Cuyahoga County by nearly 25%. - Ask Ohio House of Representatives to restore the Public Library Fund.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

140 Million US Citizens do not have a passport
Up to 69 million WOMEN who changed their last name after marriage do not have a birth certificate matching their legal name
