This Sunday is Native American Ministries Sunday

Native American Ministries Sunday is one of the 6 Special Sundays observed by the United Methodist Church. Funds raised for this program help to educate and recruit Native American clergy. This program also provides support for Native American students through scholarships.

Our church budget provides a small offering toward this Special Sunday and the congregation can also contribute toward this fund raiser if they wish. Just a note: over $426 thousand was raised from all UMC last year.

Landscaping Done

As you come to church on Sunday you will notice the landscaping to the Sutton side of church building has been finished. This is to prevent the pooling of rain water around the church building which eventually seeps into Fellowship Hall if there is a lot of rain. Good news: little or no damage was done to the root systems of the dogwood trees, so they should be fine.

New Online Church Directory is available.

How to access our church's online directory?

  1. Download the App from your App store. (The above picture is what the App looks like>)
  2. To log in you will need to use your personal email address that is listed in the directory. If your email address is not in the directory you can't access the MUMC online directory
  3. Lastly you need to create a password for your account and then you are in.

(NOTE: only members who filled out their directory info sheet are in the new directory. It is not to late to add your info. See Brittany Link or email her: Brittany.l@maplewoodumc.org)

Come to Coffee with Pastor Kim, Sunday, April 30 at 9:50 a.m.

Beyond the Blue

Teach a youth about the way they should go; even when they are old they will not depart from it.         Proverbs 22:6

Did you know a college degree has the power to end the cycle of poverty in a family forever? An adult with a college degree earns nearly $1.2 million more over a lifetime than their counterpart with only a high school diploma. Bachelor’s degree holders are 47% more likely to have health insurance through their jobs than those holding high school degrees, and their employers contribute 74% more to their health coverage. Studies show that college grads are happier and healthier overall. And children of college graduates are more likely to attend college themselves and pursue their dreams.

Maplewood UMC has a long history of assisting our local community and the MRH school district, through supporting programs such as Weekend on Wheels and Joe’s Place, as well as hosting Freedom School. Now a new ministry program, Beyond the Blue, is forming at MUMC to support MRH graduates that are first-generation college students to help give them an equal chance for success. Through this new ministry, interested MRH first-generation college students will be paired with a “College Support Guide,” a dedicated volunteer that will provide social and emotional support and mentorship as the student navigates college life.

If you are interested in helping with the planning of this program or in volunteering as a College Support Guide, please join us at the next Beyond the Blue planning meeting which will be held on Sunday, April 30th at 12:30pm after worship. For more information, please contact Courtney Stotler at c.stotler@sbcglobal.net or (314) 448-7157.
